Devdutt Paddikal creates history in Vijay Hazare Trophy
The 20-year-old opening batsman, Devdutt Paddikal has been
in sensational form during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament. In the 2nd
quarterfinals against Kerala played at Palam A Air force Ground, New Delhi,
Paddikal made a sensational 101 and put on a remarkable 249 runs for the
opening wicket.
His 101 off 119 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes along with a
brilliant 192 by Ravi Samarth, quickfire 34 off 20 balls helped Karnataka post
a massive total of 338 for 3 in 50 overs. In reply, Kerala could only manage
only 258 in 43.4 overs as Karnataka won the match by 80 runs. Paddikal created
a major impact in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy so far.
Devudtt Paddikal became the 2nd player to hit 4 centuries
in Vijay Hazare Trophy history. The left-handed opener has shown tremendous
consistency this season scoring 673 runs from 6 matches (6 innings) with 4
centuries and 2 half-centuries. Paddikal made 52, 97, 152, 126*, 145* and 101
in the tournament so far.
He and Ravi Samarth provided great starts to Karnataka laying
a strong foundation for winning matches. Paddikal finished as the leading
run-getter in the 2019/20 season with 609 runs from 11 matches (11 innings)
with 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries. He made the best score of 103* and
helped Karnataka to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
After sitting on the bench in IPL 2019, Paddikal performed
brilliantly for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020. He was RCB's leading
run-getter with 473 runs from 15 matches (15 innings) with 5 half-centuries. It
was an amazing batting performance for the youngster who opened the batting and
provided the platform for other RCB batsmen to build on.
His best score was 74 against Mumbai Indians at Abu Dhabi on
28th October 2020. Despite his performance, RCB lost the match with
ease. He would be looking to continue his great form in the upcoming matches and
for RCB in this year’s season. Virat Kohli smacked 4 centuries for Delhi during
2007/08 season.
