India versus England 4th Test 1st Day: Bowlers put India on top
Thanks to another brilliant bowling display, India ended the first day of the 4th Test match in a strong position played at
Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday.
England captain Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat
first. Zak Crawley survived a close LBW shout given not out by the umpire, but
Kohli asked for a review, it was upheld as the ball was going over the stumps.
Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma troubled England bowlers with swing and seam.
Axar Patel was bought into the attack and struck immediately
off his second ball getting rid of Sibley with good delivery. Zak Crawley
looked edgy before coming down the track and provided an easy catch to Washington
Sundar at mid-off. Jonny Bairstow was confident with his strokes while Siraj
troubled England captain Joe Root with beauties. After the first drinks break,
Siraj struck to get off Root that swung in hitting right in front of the
wickets to leave England in trouble at 30 for 3. Ben Stokes was facing troubles
against Siraj while Bairstow played with solid defense and hit boundaries off
bad balls.
R Ashwin was bought by Virat Kohli in the 19th
over as Stokes and Bairstow looked comfortable. Before the lunch break,
Bairstow made in as Pujara was off balance. Stokes and Bairstow ensured that
England ended the first session at 74 for 3.

decision and it was retained due to the umpire’s call. Bairstow and Stokes added 48
runs for the 4th wicket. Ollie Pope looked confident with his
strokes playing spinners and pacers decently. Washington Sundar was introduced
into the attack for the first time. Stokes showed his class and played

way providing a simple catch to Shubman Gill at short leg. Pope and Lawrence added

leave England in big trouble. Axar Patel got rid of Lawrence who played a rash
stroke coming down the track and was stumped by Pant. He then dismissed Dom
Bess with another good delivery. Leach and Anderson hit some runs before Ashwin
got the wicket of Leach to bowl out England for a paltry total of 205.
James Anderson dismissed Shubman Gill with a beauty in the
first over itself. Gill decided to review the decision and was upheld due to the umpire’s
call. Jack Leach bowled tight lines and lengths. Pujara and Rohit Sharma remained
steady as India ended on 24 for 1. Anderson did not give any runs in his 5
