Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin brilliance ensured that India registered an emphatic win on the 3rd day of the 4th Test match played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Starting on the overnight score of 294 for 7, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel began off confidently against England bowlers taking on England spinners Jack Leach and Dom Bess. Both batsmen played James Anderson decently. Ben Stokes was bought into the attack by Root and produced some bouncers but both Indian batsmen were up to the mark. After the first drinks, the things looked comfortable before Axar Patel was run out trying to take a single. Axar and Washington Sundar added 106 runs for the 8th wicket. Ben Stokes got wickets of Ishant Sharma for 0 and then castled Siraj to bowl out India for 365. Washington Sundar left stranded on 96 as the hosts got 160 runs lead.

England went into the lunch break at 6 for 0 with Crawley and Sibley at the crease. It was an ideal start for India as Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Zak Crawley giving a simple catch to Rahane at slips. Ashwin struck again to get rid of Bairstow on his first ball with a regulation grab by Rohit Sharma at leg slip. The spin twin of Axar and Ashwin continued their merry way making life tough for the visitors.

Sibley was dismissed in an unfortunate way as it hit the pad of Shubman Gill and went straight into the hands of Pant to leave England in big trouble. India left England in massive trouble as Axar Patel dismissed Ben Stokes trying to sweep providing an easy catch to Kohli at leg slip. Ollie Pope and Joe Root looked confident with their strokes. Axar Patel dismissed Pope who came down the track stumped by Pant. Pope and Stokes added 35 runs for the 5th wicket. In the next over, Ashwin produced a beauty to dismiss England captain Joe Root. Dan Lawrence played some lovely strokes while Foakes gave him good support. At the end of tea break, England looked in massive trouble at 91 for 6.

Lawrence and Foakes started off brightly in the 3rd session against Indian bowlers. Patel got the breakthrough for India dismissing Foakes with a good catch by Rahane at slips. Rahane was not sure that he took the catch as umpires went upstairs as the soft signal was not out. The umpire gave it out ending 44 runs partnership for the 7th wicket. Patel struck again to get rid of Dom Bess with a lovely catch by Pant.

Lawrence played with confidence against the Indian spinners. Leach was given out by the umpire for a catch, but the decision was overturned as it did not hit anything. Both batsmen kept Indian bowlers at bay for some time. Lawrence reached his fifty off 93 balls. Ashwin dismissed Leach with a good catch, Leach, while Lawrence was bowled with beauty by Ashwin. India bowled out England for 135 to give them an innings and 25 runs win.

India 365 in 114.4 overs (Pant 101, Washington Sundar 96*, Rohit Sharma 49, Stokes 4/89, Anderson 3/44, Leach 2/89) beat England 205 in 75.5 overs ( Stokes 55, Lawrence 46, Patel 4/68, Ashwin 3/47) and 135 in 54.5 overs ( Lawrence 50, Root 30, Axar Patel 5/48, Ashwin 5/47) by an innings and 25 runs.
