Quarter-finals line-up for the 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy announced
After the final day play of league, stage played at various
venues today, the quarterfinals line-up for the 50 over Vijay Hazare Trophy has
been announced.
Group A
Gujarat qualified from Group A as the table topper. They won
all their matches and remained unbeaten with 20 points. In the opening match,
Gujarat defeated Chhattisgarh by 3 wickets with 11 balls to spare.
In their second match, Gujarat eased past Goa winning it by
8 wickets. It was another dominating performance by Gujarat who crushed Tripura
by 132 runs in their match. Gujarat won a closely fought fourth match defeating
Hyderabad by 12 runs. Their league stage ended with 40 runs win over Baroda.
Group B
Andhra Pradesh qualified for the quarterfinals based on a better net run rate. Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand finished
with 12 points, but Andhra Pradesh made it through.
Andhra Pradesh stunned Vidarbha in the opening match chasing
down a massive target of 332. They proved their worth by defeating strong Tamil
Nadu side with ease. In their third match, Andhra Pradesh lost a one-sided match
to Punjab.
They lost their second successive match in the tournament
losing to Madhya Pradesh by a big margin. Andhra Pradesh chased down a modest
target of 140 runs in just 9.5 overs to have a better net run-rate to qualify for
the knockout stage.
Group C
In Group C, Karnataka, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh qualified for
the knockout stage. Karnataka qualified as the table-topper with 16 points. After
losing their opening match to Uttar Pradesh, Devdutt Paddikal showed his class
and helped them to win the next four matches easily.
Uttar Pradesh had the same number of points with 16 as Karnataka
but due to less run-rate, they finished second. Uttar Pradesh's only loss came
against Kerala and won their next four matches.
Kerala ended the league stage with 16 points winning four
matches and losing only one. They lost against Karnataka but looked strong
against other teams in the group.
Group D
Mumbai and Delhi made it into the quarterfinals stage. Mumbai
finished top of the points table winning all their 5 matches while Delhi lost
their only match to Mumbai and finished 2nd.
Group E
Despite a shock loss to Services in the final league game,
Saurashtra made it into the knockout stage with 16 points. They defeated
Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bengal, and Haryana.
Plate Group
Uttarakhand and Assam finished with 20 points each but due
to better net run rate, Uttarakhand finished as the table topper.
