Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021: Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Paddikal make history.
It was another record-breaking performance as Prithvi Shaw
and Devdutt Paddikal broke records during the 2nd Semi-finals played
at the Palam Air Force Ground, New Delhi on Thursday.
Karnataka captain R Samarth won the toss and decided to
field first. Jaiswal was dismissed cheaply by Prasidh Krishna cheaply. Shaw looked
solid at one end putting pressure on Karnataka bowlers smashing Krishna for 21
runs in the 8th over to shift the momentum. It was an amazing
batting performance by Shaw who kept his dream run continuing. After completing
his half-century, the explosive opener opened his arms more and looked in
sensational touch.
After the fall of Aditya Tare’s wicket, Shams Mulani came to the
crease and put more pressure on the Karnataka bowlers. Shaw smashed his fourth
century of the tournament off 79 balls. Mulani and Shaw added 159 runs for the
3rd wicket to keep the momentum going for Mumbai. Shaw created
enough pressure and completed his 150 off the next 32 balls. He was eventually
dismissed for a superb 165 off 122 balls with 17 fours and 7 sixes. Mumbai lost
quick wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out for 322 in 49.2 overs.
Chasing 323 runs to win, Karnataka lost an early wicket of R
Samarth cheaply. Devdutt Paddikal continued his sensational form in the
tournament and smacked a run-ball 64 before being dismissed by Solanki to be in
big trouble at 97 for 4. Karun Nair, Shreyas Gopal, Krishnappa Gowtham all got
starts but was not able to convert into big scores. BR Sharath also tried his
best but was dismissed. Mumbai bowled out Karnataka for 250 in 42.4 overs to
win the match by 72 runs. For Mumbai, Kotian, Solanki, Mulani, and Tushar Deshpande
took 2 wickets each, while Kulkarni and Jaiswal picked 1 wicket each.
Prithvi Shaw and Paddikal surpassed Mayank Agarwal’s score
of 723 that he scored in the 2017/2018 season. In the ongoing Vijay Hazare
Trophy, Shaw has made so far 754 runs from 7 matches (7 innings) with 4
centuries. He broke the highest individual score in the Vijay Hazare Trophy of 227
against Puducherry. He will have another chance to score big against Uttar
Pradesh in the finals to be played on 14th March. Shaw became the
third batsman after Kohli and Paddikal to smash 4 centuries in Vijay Hazare
Trophy.
Devdutt Paddikal ended the season with 737 runs from 7
matches (7 innings) with 4 centuries and 3 half-centuries. He made the best score
of 152 helping Karnataka to reach the semi-finals.
