This Day That Year: West Indies bowler created history in IPL

The young-fast bowler from West Indies, Alazzari Joseph ripped the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting line-up to register the best figures in IPL history. He achieved this remarkable feat on 6th April 2019 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the toss and decided to field first. It was a superb bowling effort by SRH bowlers to stem the run flow and took wickets at regular intervals. Kieron Pollard remained not out on 46 off 26 balls to help Mumbai Indians post 136 for 7.

SRH openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow began off well for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rahul Chahar provided the breakthrough for Mumbai Indians getting rid of Jonny Bairstow. Joseph showed his class by dismissing David Warner with a beauty and then Vijay Shankar to leave SRH in some trouble. Mumbai Indians bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals and put pressure on the host's batting line-up.

Coming into the second spell, Joseph took wickets of Deepak Hooda, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar to leave SRH in tatters. He ended the innings by dismissing Siddarth Kaul with another beauty to bowl out the hosts for a paltry 96 in 17.4 overs. It was an amazing bowling effort by Mumbai Indians bowlers, especially Joseph.

Joseph ended the with figures of 6 for 12 in 3.4 overs. For his match-winning efforts, the West Indies bowler was awarded the man of the match award. He broke Sohail Tanvir’s record that he took in 2008. Tanvir featured for Rajasthan Royals and grabbed 6 for 19 in 4 overs against Chennai Super Kings at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur.

He played only 3 matches in IPL 2019 and took 6 wickets. After this record feat, Joseph was expensive and did not pick any wickets. With the bat, he made a vital knock of 15* against Punjab Kings.
