ICC ODI Super League: All-round Netherlands beat Ireland to win the series.
The Netherlands produced a dominating performance to beat
Ireland in the 3rd and final One-day international match played at
Utrecht on Monday.
Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie won the toss and decided to
bat first. It was a disastrous start as they lost the big wicket of experienced
Kevin O Brien off the fourth ball. Soon after, the dangerous opener Paul
Stirling was dismissed by Klassen to leave Ireland in big trouble at 6 for 2.
Kingma produced a beauty to get rid of Ireland captain Balbirnie
making the matter worse. At the end of the first 10 overs, Ireland made 28 for
3. It could have been worst for Ireland as Tector was given out by the umpire but
there was an inside edge and the decision was overturned. George Dockrell and Harry
Tector steadied the ship for Ireland keeping the scoreboard ticking. Dockrell
was the aggressor while Tector kept one end tight.
Van Beek got the breakthrough for the Netherlands dismissing
Dockrell. Dockrell and Tector added 89 runs for the 4th wicket. Tector
kept his composure to complete his fifty off 86 balls. The Netherlands bowlers
kept on a tight leash by picking up wickets at regular intervals to bowl out
Ireland for 163 in 49.2 overs. For Netherlands, Van Beek and Fred Klassen took
3 wickets each.
Chasing a modest total of 164 runs to win, Stephen Myburgh
and Max O Donald played with intent putting pressure on the Ireland bowling
line-up. The explosive Myburgh hit boundaries at will keeping the momentum. At
the end of the first 10 overs, Netherlands made 48 for 0.
After the field restrictions, Netherland’s openers continued
to milk the bowling away. Simi Singh got the breakthrough getting rid of O Donald
ending 66 runs partnership. After the breakthrough, Scott Edwards failed to
open his account. Myburgh looked in fine touch hitting boundaries and keeping
the scoreboard ticking.
The left-handed Myburgh reached his fifty off 87 balls. After
completing his fifty, Myburgh upped the ante hitting boundaries at will while
Bas de Leede struggled with the timing. Myburgh's superb innings came to an end
as he was dismissed trying to finish the innings. Myburgh and de Leede added 62
runs for the 4th wicket. Bas de Leede scored 18 off 66 balls and
captain Seelar was dismissed for 0.
Van Beek hit the winning runs and helped Netherlands
register a 4 wicket win with 25 balls to spare. Netherlands registered 20
points in the ICC ODI Super League tournament.

36, Simi Singh 3/29) beat Ireland 163 in 49.2 overs ( Tector 58, Dockrell 40,
