England versus Pakistan 3rd ODI: England whitewash the series with record run chase
It was an amazing game of cricket as England showed their domination in the 3rd One-day international played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Tuesday.
England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to field first. Imam UL Haq began off to a great start hitting a boundary from the very first delivery by Saqib Mahmood. The England players did not review for LBW shout. A superb catch by Zak Crawley at third slips resulted in the wicket of Fakhar Zaman. Saqib Mahmood and Lewis Gregory put Pakistani captain Babar Azam under pressure with dot balls. At the end of the first 10 overs, Pakistan made 35 for 1.
Babar Azam got his first runs off the 15th ball.
Despite hitting boundaries, Imam UL Haq and Babar Azam could not score at a
quick pace. After the initial struggle, both batsmen upped the ante making life
tough for the England inexperienced bowlers. Imam reached his fifty off 66
balls while Babar Azam completed a half-century off 72 balls. Mark Parkinson
produced a stunning delivery to get rid of Imam UL Haq. Imam and Babar Azam
added 92 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Mohammad Rizwan looked busy with his running between the
wickets and hit boundaries at will. Pakistani captain Babar Azam proved worth
with brilliant strokes reaching his 14th ODI century off 104 balls.
After reaching the century, Azam and Rizwan kept on the pressure keeping the
scoreboard ticking.
Rizwan reached a well-made half-century off 42 balls. Babar
Azam created enough pressure on Matt Parkinson with boundaries. Carse ended the
innings for Rizwan who tried to clear the boundary providing an easy catch to
Simpson. Rizwan and Babar Azam added 179 runs for 3rd wicket. After the fall of Rizwan’s wicket, Pakistan
promoted up Masqood, Hasan Ali, and Faheem Ashraf. Masqood made 8 runs, Hasan
Ali 4 of 1 ball, Faheem Ashraf with 10 off 4 balls. Shahbad Khan and Shaheen
Shah Afridi dismissed without opening their accounts.

was eventually dismissed for a brilliant 158. Carse and Saqib Mahmood took
8 wickets between them. Pakistan posted a massive total of 331 for 9 in 50 overs
on a good batting pitch.
Chasing 332 runs to win, it was an aggressive start for the
hosts as Phil Salt smashed 4 boundaries off Shaheen Shah Afridi in the first
over. Dawid Malan did not take a review as it did not hit the edge. Zak Crawley
and Phil Salt showed great intent hitting boundaries at will putting Pakistan
bowlers under immense pressure. Haris Rauf struck in his first ball dismissing
the dangerous Phil Salt. Salt and Crawley added 34 runs for the 2nd
wicket. Crawley and Vince hit bad balls away for boundaries keeping the
scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first 10 overs, England looked in complete
control at 84 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Crawley and Vince continued to
dominate the Pakistan bowling line-up. Rauf castled Zak Crawley’s stump to end
51 runs partnership for 3rd wicket. Pakistan fielding and catching
was not up to the mark as Hasan Ali and Shoaib Masqood dropped simple chances
of Ben Stokes.
Ben Stokes's speedy innings came to end as Mohammad Rizwan
took a good catch. Stokes and Vince added 47 runs for the 4th
wicket. Sarfaraz Ahmed replaced Rizwan as wicketkeeper. Shahbad Khan struck
again to get rid of John Simpson to leave England in trouble at 165 for 5. Imam
UL Haq dropped a simple chance to dismiss Gregory. Vince kept the momentum and
completed a half-century off 45 balls. Vince and Gregory showed their class
hitting bad balls away for boundaries. Pakistan bowling lacked the venom as
both England batsmen never looked in trouble. Gregory completed his 2nd
fifty off 53 balls to continue their attacking display.
James Vince completed a century off 91 balls and put England
on course for a win. Rauf ended a brilliant 129 runs partnership for 6th
wicket getting rid of Vince who could not clear Babar Azam at mid-off. A lovely
catch by Shahbad Khan ended in the wicket of Gregory to give Pakistan some hopes
of winning.
Craig Overton and Brydon Carse stayed cool at the end putting
on unbeaten 29 runs stand for the 8th wicket to help England chase
down a record chase at this ground. With this win, England registered 10 more
points in the ICC ODI Super League.
