West Indies versus Australia 3rd T20I: West Indies prove their domination over Australia
Thanks to a breath-taking batting display by Chris Gayle, the West Indies Cricket Team proved their domination over Australia in the 3rd T20I played at Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium, St Lucia on Monday.
Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to
bat first. Matthew Wade and Aaron Finch looked in decent touch putting pressure
on the West Indies fast bowlers. Obed McCoy produced the breakthrough for the
hosts getting rid of Wade who swung but went onto the stumps to end 41 runs
opening partnership. Australia scored 45 for 1 at the end of the first six overs.
Fabien Allen dismissed inform batsmen Mitchell Marsh trying
to sweep a full delivery and was plumb in front. The Australian captain Aaron
Finch could not score runs as West Indies bowlers kept tight lines and lengths.
Hayden Walsh Junior got wickets of Alex Carey and then a combined effort by
Bravo and Allen resulted in Finch’s wicket to leave Australia in trouble at 80
for 4.
Moises Henriques and Ashton Turner steadied the ship for
Australia with lovely strokes. Despite both batsmen hitting runs, West Indies
bowlers did not allow the visitors to score runs at a quick pace. Dwayne Bravo
got wickets of Moises Henriques and Ashton Turner in the final over restricting
Australia to 141 for 6 in 20 overs. Henriques and Turner added 59 runs for the
5th wicket.
Chasing down 142 runs to win, West Indies lost an early
wicket of Andre Fletcher in the very first over off Starc’s bowling. Chris
Gayle looked in sensational touch smashing Josh Hazlewood for 19 runs to lay a
strong foundation for the hosts. Lendl Simmons also showed class with brilliant
boundaries. Playing his first match, Riley Meredith got the wicket of Simmons ending
38 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. At the end of the first six
overs, West Indies scored 49 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Gayle continued his domination
over the Australian bowlers. Nicolas Pooran joined in the party with boundaries
keeping momentum for West Indies. During the course of the innings, Gayle scored
14,000 T20 runs. Gayle completed fifty off 33 balls and made sure that West
Indies are on course for a big win. The universe boss was eventually dismissed
by Meredith for a brilliant 67 off 38 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes. Gayle and
Pooran added 67 runs for the 3rd wicket.
A superb catch by Adam Zampa grabbed the wicket of Dwyane
Bravo. Nicolas Pooran hit 2 successive boundaries to help West Indies register
an emphatic 6 wickets win with 31 balls to spare.
West Indies 142 for 4 in 14.5 overs (Gayle 67, Nicolas
Pooran 32*, Meredith 3/48) beat Australia 141 for 6 in 20 overs ( Henriques 33,
Finch 30, Walsh Junior 2/18) by 6 wickets.
West Indies registered their first-ever series over
Australia for a long time. For his brilliant 67 off 38 balls, Chris Gayle was named
man of the match. With this win, the defending T20I champions sealed the series
with 2 games to spare.
