Bangladesh recorded their first ever T20I win over Australia
Thanks to a superb all-round effort, Bangladesh started the T20I series with a convincing win over Australia played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday.
Australian stand-in captain Matthew Wade won the toss and
decided to field first. Mohammad Naim started the innings with a pick-up shot
for six. Soumya Sarkar looked out of sorts and was bowled trying to make room
taking the edge onto the stumps giving Josh Hazlewood the first wicket.
Mohammad Naim played with intent putting pressure on Australian bowling.
Bangladesh scored 33 for 1 at the end of the first six overs.
After the field restrictions, Adam Zampa struck for
Australia getting rid of Naim who tried to play a reverse sweep but was cleaned
up. Shakib AL Hasan kept hitting the gaps while Mahmudullah struggled to time
the ball. A superb running catch by Henriques ended the innings for Mahmudullah.
Mahmudullah and Shakib AL Hasan added 36 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Australian bowlers kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Afif Hossain
played a blinder of an innings hitting 23 off 17 balls helping Bangladesh post
131 for 7 in 20 overs. For Australia, Hazlewood grabbed 3 wickets while
Mitchell Starc took 2 wickets, Adam Zampa and Andrew Tye 1 wicket each.
Chasing 132 runs to win, it was the worst possible start as
Mahedi Hasan got rid of Alex Carey with a beauty. Nasum Ahmed got wickets of
Josh Phillippe and Moises Henriques to leave Australia in tatters at 11 for 3.
The Bangladeshi bowlers kept on bowling tight lines and lengths not allowing
Wade to score runs easily. At the end of the first six overs, Australia made 28
for 3.
Nasum Ahmed grabbed the wicket of Matthew Wade providing a simple catch
to Rahman. Ashton Agar was dismissed by hit wicket. Ahmed struck again to
dismiss the dangerous Mitchell Marsh. It was a great performance by the
Bangladeshi bowlers taking wickets at regular intervals and bowled out
Australia for 108.
It was a superb bowling performance as Nasum Ahmed grabbed
his best figures of 4 for 19 in 4 overs, Shoriful Islam and Rahman grabbed 2
wickets each, Mahedi Hasan and Shakib grabbed 1 wicket each.
Bangladesh registered their first-ever win over Australia in
T20I. After winning the series against Zimbabwe, this win would wonder in the remaining
matches.
Bangladesh 131 for 7 in 20 overs ( Shakib AL Hasan 36,
Mohammad Naim 30, Hazlewood 3/24) beat Australia 108 in 20 overs ( Mitchell
Marsh 45, Mitchell Starc 14, Nasum Ahmed 4/19) by 23 runs.
For his career-best figures of 4 for 19 in 4 overs, Nasum
Ahmed was named man of the match award. Bangladesh takes 1-0 lead in 5 match
series. The second T20I will be played tomorrow.
