Bangladesh recorded their first ever T20I win over Australia

Thanks to a superb all-round effort, Bangladesh started the T20I series with a convincing win over Australia played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday.

Australian stand-in captain Matthew Wade won the toss and decided to field first. Mohammad Naim started the innings with a pick-up shot for six. Soumya Sarkar looked out of sorts and was bowled trying to make room taking the edge onto the stumps giving Josh Hazlewood the first wicket. Mohammad Naim played with intent putting pressure on Australian bowling. Bangladesh scored 33 for 1 at the end of the first six overs.

After the field restrictions, Adam Zampa struck for Australia getting rid of Naim who tried to play a reverse sweep but was cleaned up. Shakib AL Hasan kept hitting the gaps while Mahmudullah struggled to time the ball. A superb running catch by Henriques ended the innings for Mahmudullah. Mahmudullah and Shakib AL Hasan added 36 runs for the 3rd wicket. Australian bowlers kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Afif Hossain played a blinder of an innings hitting 23 off 17 balls helping Bangladesh post 131 for 7 in 20 overs. For Australia, Hazlewood grabbed 3 wickets while Mitchell Starc took 2 wickets, Adam Zampa and Andrew Tye 1 wicket each.

Chasing 132 runs to win, it was the worst possible start as Mahedi Hasan got rid of Alex Carey with a beauty. Nasum Ahmed got wickets of Josh Phillippe and Moises Henriques to leave Australia in tatters at 11 for 3. The Bangladeshi bowlers kept on bowling tight lines and lengths not allowing Wade to score runs easily. At the end of the first six overs, Australia made 28 for 3.

Nasum Ahmed grabbed the wicket of Matthew Wade providing a simple catch to Rahman. Ashton Agar was dismissed by hit wicket. Ahmed struck again to dismiss the dangerous Mitchell Marsh. It was a great performance by the Bangladeshi bowlers taking wickets at regular intervals and bowled out Australia for 108.

It was a superb bowling performance as Nasum Ahmed grabbed his best figures of 4 for 19 in 4 overs, Shoriful Islam and Rahman grabbed 2 wickets each, Mahedi Hasan and Shakib grabbed 1 wicket each.
