CPL 2021: West Indies explosive batsmen smashes fastest half-century in CPL history
It was an amazing batting display of batting by Jamaica Tallawahs smashing the St Lucia Kings bowlers all over the park in their opening match of CPL 2021 played at Warner Park, St Kitts on Friday.
St Lucia Kings captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and
decided to field first. Kennar Lewis and Chadwick Walton plundered St Lucia
Kings bowlers right from the word go. Tallawahs openers put Kings bowlers under
immense pressure making life tough for Faf du Plessis. At the stroke of the first
six overs, Chase dismissed Lewis ending 81 runs opening partnership.
Haider Ali joined in the party and kept the pressure on the Kings
bowlers. After the fall of Walton, St Lucia Kings bowlers never looked settle as
Ali and captain Rovman Powell dismantled the Kings bowlers.
Powell and Haider Ali went off successive deliveries as both
added 82 runs for the 3rd wicket. Andre Russell came to the crease
in the 18th over and just took off right from word go putting Lucia
Kings bowlers are under tremendous pressure. Russell made mockery smashing Wahab
Riaz for 32 runs in the 19th over to help Jamaica Tallawahs keep the
momentum going. Miguel Pretorius gave the strike to Russell who punished McCoy by hitting him for 22 runs. Russell smashed four off the last ball and completed
the fastest fifty off 14 balls. His knock comprised of 3 fours and 6 sixes
with an amazing strike rate of 357.14.
Thanks to a superb batting effort, Jamaica Tallawahs posted
the second-highest ever total in CPL history making 255 for 5 in 20 overs.
Walton made 47, Lewis 48 off 22 balls, Haider Ali 45 off 33 balls, captain Rovman
Powell 38 off 25 balls put on a sensational display that put Lucia Kings
bowlers under so much pressure.
For St Lucia Kings, Wahab Riaz conceded record 61 runs in 3
overs as Russell took 32 runs that took a dent to his figures.
