Records created during the 3rd T20I between Bangladesh and Australia
Bangladesh recorded their first-ever bilateral series win over Australia. The Tigers achieved this feat as they defeated the Aussies in the 3rd T20I match played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Friday.
Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah won the toss and decided to
bat first. It was not an ideal start for the hosts as they lost 2 quick wickets
of Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar. Shakib AL Hasan showed intent and took the
attack to Australian bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, Bangladesh
made 28 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Shakib was dismissed by Zampa
trying to hit a big shot. Shakib and Mahmudullah added 44 runs for the 3rd
wicket. Mahmudullah played the anchor role keeping his wicket intact. On the
other hand, the rest of the Bangladeshi batsmen struggled to hit boundaries.
Making his T20I debut, Nathan Ellis struggled in the first few
deliveries. Mahmudullah reached his fifty off 52 balls. Ellis grabbed major milestones as he took the wicket of Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahedi in the final
over. He became the third Australian bowler after Brett Lee and Ashton Agar to
grab hattrick in the shortest format. Ellis finished with figures of 3 for 34 in 4
overs. A disciplined bowling effort helped Australia restrict Bangladesh to 127
for 9.
Chasing 128 runs to win, Australia lost the early wicket of
captain Matthew Wade. The Bangladeshi bowlers kept tight lines and lengths not
allowing Marsh and Ben McDermott to score runs easily. At the end of the first
six overs, Australia made 20 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Marsh and McDermott kept the
scoreboard ticking ensuring that Australia are on course for their first win. The
experienced Shakib AL Hasan got rid of Ben McDermott. Marsh and McDermott added
63 runs for 2nd wicket. Soon, Shrofiul Islam dismissed Moises
Henriques to leave Australia in some trouble.
Mitchell Marsh looked in decent touch and completed fifty
off 45 balls. He was eventually dismissed by Shoriful Islam after being
involved in a heated argument. Mustafizur Rahman bowled a stunning 19th
over giving away just 1 run. Daniel Christian was not able to connect the
shots.
Mahedi Hasan was trusted the final over with 22 runs to
defend. The youngster was smashed for a six to give some hopes for Australia. He
delivered no-ball but Christian and Carey could not hit big shots. Bangladesh
held their nerves to defeat Australia by 10 runs.
Bangladesh recorded their first bilateral series win over
Australia in any format. This is a brilliant achievement for Tigers. It has
been amazing by Tigers during this series so far winning the first T20I by
23 runs, 2nd T20I by 5 wickets, and then the third T20I by 10 runs.
Bangladesh 127 for 9 in 20 overs (Mahmudullah 52, Shakib AL
Hasan 26, Nathan Ellis 3/34) beat Australia 117 for 4 in 20 overs (Mitchell
Marsh 51, Shoriful Islam 2/29) by 10 runs.
For his 52 off 54 balls, Mahmudullah was awarded the man of
the match. Bangladesh took a 3-0 unassailable lead. The fourth match will be
played today.
