Brendon Taylor ends his international career with a low score

One of the finest cricketers that Zimbabwe has produced, Brendon Taylor decided to take retirement from the international circuit during the ongoing 3rd One-day international against Ireland played at Belfast on Monday.

The match did not start on time due to rain. After lots of delays, Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie won the toss and decided to field first.

Coming to open the innings in his last international match, Taylor tried to play a big slog and was castled by Joshua Little at the score of 7 runs off 12 deliveries. His performances for Zimbabwe Cricket have been nothing short of brilliant.

Taylor made his Test debut for Zimbabwe on 6th May 2004 against Sri Lanka. He played a total of 34 matches with 2320 runs from 68 innings with 6 centuries and 12 half-centuries. His career-best score was 171. In November 2018, the wicketkeeper-batsman became the first Zimbabwean cricketer to hit back-to-back centuries in Tests on two occasions.

He did a brilliant job as a wicketkeeper with 30 catches and 0 Stumpings. His last match in Zimbabwean colors was against Bangladesh in July 2021. After the poor performances during the 2011 World Cup, Taylor was appointed as the captain of the Test team taking over Chigbumra.

His performances in the limited-overs series led Zimbabwe to famous wins. He made his ODI debut for Zimbabwe on 20th April 2004 and played a total of 205 matches (203 innings) with a career-best score of 145.

During the 2015 World Cup, Taylor hit 2 back-to-back centuries, once against Ireland with 121 off 91 balls and then in the last group game against India. After that match, Taylor decided to retire from international cricket. His wicketkeeping created a great impact for Zimbabwe with 132 catches and 29 stumpings.

Brendon Taylor made his T20I debut for Zimbabwe against Bangladesh on 28th November 2006. He played a total of 44 matches (44 innings) and scored 747 runs with a career-best score of 60. During 2007 World T20, Taylor was a part of the winning team helping Zimbabwe stun Australia. His career-best score of 60 and great performance with gloves made him the man of the match.

Taylor captained Zimbabwe side during the 3 matches T20I series against Pakistan this year. His captaincy was superb defending 118 runs on a tough batting pitch. Despite that brilliant performance, the hosts lost the series by 1-2.

Zimbabwe could only manage 131 runs in 34 overs with captain Craig Ervine top scorer with 57. Ireland was given target after lots of rain delays and eventually won the match easily by 7 wickets via the DLS method. With this, Ireland equaled the series at 1-1.
