India versus England 4th Test 3rd Day: Rohit Sharma and Pujara leads India’s fightback
Thanks to a brilliant effort by Rohit Sharma and Pujara, the Indian Cricket Team gave them a chance on the 3rd day of the 4th Test match played at Kennington Oval, London on Saturday.
Starting on the overnight score of 43 for 0, Rohit Sharma
started the day with a lovely boundary off James Anderson. The Indian openers left
the ball brilliantly and hit bad balls away for boundaries. Rohit Sharma was
given 2nd reprieve as Rory Burns dropped a tough chance. KL Rahul decided
to review the decision for LBW, and it was overturned to not out as it was missing
the leg stump.
The Indian openers looked solid enough against good quality
pace bowling of England. James Anderson provided the much-needed breakthrough for
the hosts dismissing KL Rahul via review for caught. The umpire gave it not out
and the decision was overturned to out as it hit the edge before pad. Indian openers
laid a strong foundation putting on 83 runs.
Cheteshwar Pujara came with the intent of putting the bad balls
away for boundaries while Rohit Sharma remained solid playing according to
merit. India went into the lunch break at 108 for 1.
After the lunch break, Rohit Sharma completed his fifty off
145 balls while Pujara was strapped as he slipped while running. Pujara and
Rohit kept the scoreboard ticking hitting boundaries and taking singles with
ease. Rohit showed skills making life tough for England bowlers especially Moeen
Ali.
Rohit Sharma completed his maiden Test century on overseas soil
off 204 balls keeping the England bowlers at bay. At the end of the 2nd session, India made 199 for 1.
The third session saw Pujara remain solid and complete his fifty
off 103 balls. Joe Root and Moeen Ali decided to bowl before the 2nd
new ball. Robinson struck with the 2nd new ball immediately dismissing
well-set Rohit Sharma who was not able to keep the ball down providing an easy catch
to Woakes at fine leg. Rohit and Pujara added 153 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
In the same over, Ollie Robinson got rid of Pujara via review for being caught behind. The umpire gave it not out and on review, it was overturned to out as it hit the inside edge to Moeen Ali at slips.
Ravindra Jadeja was again promoted ahead of Rahane and
looked a little edgy. Robinson and Anderson troubled Kohli and Jadeja. After the initial
danger, Kohli created some pressure on the England bowlers. Root decided to
bowl 2 overs off-spin before the umpires decided to call off play due to bad
light.
India ended the 3rd day with a lead of 171 runs
with Kohli and Jadeja at the crease so far adding 33 runs for 4th
wicket.
