India versus England 4th Test 5th Day: Bowlers lead India to a famous win
The Indian bowlers created havoc as they registered a famous win over England on the final day of the fourth Test match played at Kennington Oval, London on Monday. With this win, India moved to the top of the ICC Championship points table.
Starting on the overnight score of 77 for 0, Rory Burns and
Haseeb Hameed began off steadily as Umesh Yadav delivered bad deliveries.
Bumrah bowled with great control but did not pick any wickets. Rory Burns
completed his fifty off 124 balls before Shardul Thakur produced a beauty to
dismiss Burns to end 100 runs opening partnership.
Ravindra Jadeja troubled Dawid Malan with deliveries coming
from the rough. Malan survived few close chances via run out and LBW through
DRS method. Haseeb Hameed completed his fifty off 123 balls. A superb piece of
pick-up throw by Mayank Agarwal resulted in the run-out of Malan to put England
under pressure.
Mohammed Siraj dropped a simple chance to get rid of Hameed.
Siraj was bought into the attack and troubled Root with some beauties. The Indian
bowling did not allow England batsmen to score runs easily. England went into
the lunch break at 131 for 2.
It was an ideal start for the Indian team in the 3rd
session as Ravindra Jadeja produced a great delivery from around the wicket rattling
Hameed’s stumps. Jasprit Bumrah bowled with pace castling the stumps of Ollie
Pope and produced a pinpoint yorker to dismiss Jonny Bairstow to leave England
in tatters.
Joe Root decided to disturb Jadeja's line and length with innovative shots. Root survived LBW shout given not out by the umpire, but on review, it was retained due to ball pitching outside leg.
Ravindra Jadeja then dismissed Moeen Ali turning from the
rough providing an easy catch to substitute Surya Kumar Yadav at short leg. Chris Woakes and
Joe Root kept India at bay with some lovely strokes by both England batsmen.
Shardul Thakur broke the backbone of England batting line-up getting rid of Joe
Root taking inside edge onto the stumps. Root and Woakes added 35 runs for the
7th wicket.
At the stroke of tea break, Umesh Yadav dismissed Chris
Woakes with a simple catch by KL Rahul at short midwicket ending the 2nd
session at 193 for 8.
Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah bowled bouncers at Overton
and Robinson. Jadeja did some bowling before Indian captain Kohli took the 2nd
new ball.
Umesh Yadav produced a snorter hitting Overton’s arm onto
the stumps leaving India on verge of a famous win. Ollie Robinson faced a lot of
short stuff from Bumrah, and Umesh Yadav as James Anderson was able to put bat
to ball.
Robinson was given a reprieve as Pant missed a run-out chance.
James Anderson was eventually given out by the umpire and on review, the decision
was retained to out.
It was a superb bowling effort by all Indian bowlers to
create lots of pressure on the English batsmen. India registered their first
win at Oval, London after a gap of 50 years.
The Indian team showed great character after conceding 99
runs lead and then batsmen produced a sensational effort to post a massive total.
For
his brilliant 127 in the 2nd innings, Rohit Sharma was named the man
of the match award. India takes a 2-1 lead with one Test match to be played
from 10th September at Old Trafford, Manchester.
India beat England in the fourth Test by 157 runs to take a 2-1 lead
