Indian badminton for the prestigious tournaments announced

 The Badminton Association of India announced a strong squad for the prestigious Sudirman Cup followed by Thomas Cup and Uber Cup.

Saina Nehwal will lead India in the Uber Cup while there are few new players who performed brilliantly during the recently concluded trials. The bronze medallists of Tokyo Olympics 2020, PV Sindhu decided to skip both tournaments as she has not had practice being busy for facilitation ceremony.

The 2021 Sudirman Cup would begin from 26th September till the 3rd of October to be played in Vantaa, Finland. They are placed in a tough group against China, Thailand, and hosts Finland.

It comprises top-quality players including K Srikanth, Sai Praneeth, doubles pair of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty, Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun, youngsters like Malvika Bansod, Aditi Bhatt, Tanisha Crasto, Rutuparna Panda, women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy.

The Thomas Cup is a prestigious tournament for men. India are placed in Group C with Champions China, Netherlands, and Tahiti. Indian team looks strong with the likes of Sai Praneeth, Srikanth, Chirag Shetty, and RankiReddy. They will start their tournament against the Netherlands on 10th October, followed by Tahiti on 12th and the final group match on 14th against China.

The Uber Cup held for the women’s team would start from 10th October. The Indian women’s team have been placed with Thailand, Spain, and Scotland in Group B.

Saina Nehwal will lead the team along with some youngsters performing well in the trials. They would be looking to showcase their talent in the absence of PV Sindhu.
