Ireland name their squad for the World T20 2021
Ireland announced their squad for the prestigious World T20 2021 to be played in the United Arab Emirates. They would feature in this tournament during qualifying rounds along with Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Namibia in Group A. The top two sides in the Group would qualify for the Super 12 stage.
The team will be led by Andy Balbirnie and has the experience
of youth and top-quality players. Ireland would be looking to shred the
disappointment of poor performances in the 2016 World T20 as they were knocked
out in the first round itself.
Paul Stirling, Kevin O Brien, Gareth Delany, Curtis Campher,
Dockrell comprises the batting line-up. Ireland lost to South Africa at home
by 0-3 and won a closely fought series against Zimbabwe by 3-2. Ireland has the
experience to qualify into the next round with good quality spinners, explosive
batsmen who can change the course of the game with power-hitting making life tough
for the opposition.
Ireland qualified for the prestigious tournament by making it into the top six of World T20 qualifiers played in 2019. They would be looking
stun every team in Group A and make it into the Super 12.
Under the captaincy of Balbirnie, Ireland would be looking
to showcase an all-around display and provide some happiness with their performances.
Ireland has one newcomer in the form of Kennedy. They will
cut down the 18-man squad to 15 in October before the tournament begins. To get
used to the conditions in UAE, they would travel to UAE early and play two warm-up matches.
It is going to be a big challenge and opportunity for the
Ireland side to shine on the big stage. The big players like Kevin O Brien,
