Stats: USA player creates history in ODIs

 History was created again as the Chandigarh born player; Jaskaran Malhotra of the United States of America became the 2nd player in ODIs after Herschelle Gibbs to hit six sixes in an over. He created this feat during 2nd One-day international against Papua New Guinea played at Al Amerat, Muscat on Thursday.

PNG captain Asaad Vala won the toss and decided to field first. Jaskaran Malhotra wicket with the scoreboard reading 29 for 3. Malhotra started off cautiously taking singles and steadied the ship with Aaron Jones.

After the initial struggle, Malhotra started to smash the PNG bowlers putting them under pressure. As things looking good for the USA, Aaron Jones was run out. Malhotra upped the ante hitting boundaries at will reaching his fifty off just 48 balls. After completing fifty, Malhotra showed his class and blasted away the PNG bowlers with ease.

Malhotra kept the momentum going for the USA while Nisarg Patel was dismissed for 20. The USA lost wickets at regular intervals as Jaskaran remained steady and reached his century off 102 balls. After reaching his century, Malhotra continued his intent against the PNG bowlers and eventually smashed 6 sixes off Toka in the final over to help United States post 271 for 9 in 50 overs.

Jaskaran Malhotra remained not out on 173 not out off 124 balls with 4 fours and 16 sixes. His knock created a major impact as the next top scorer was Aaron Jones making just 22 runs. Jaskaran became the first United States batsmen to score a century in ODI cricket.

He overtook AB de Villiers and registered the highest score by a number 5 batsman in ODIs. He joins Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard hit six sixes in an over during international cricket.
