Denmark Open 2021: Indian star shuttlers shine on opening day

 It was a good day for the Indian star shuttlers as they performed brilliantly at the Super 1000 Denmark Open played at Odense Park, Denmark on Tuesday.

Kidambi Srikanth reached the second round easily defeating Indian counterpart Sai Praneeth in two straight games. After struggling for the past 1 year, Srikanth showed his domination winning it easily by 21-14, 21-11. He will now face the tough challenge of Kento Momota.

Sameer Verma also performed brilliantly defeating K Vittisdarn of Thailand in two straight games. Sameer showed glimpses of good performances in the Thomas Cup and defeated Junior Champion with scorelines of 21-17, 21-14 to move into the 2nd round. He will face Anders Antonsen of Denmark.

After a short break, PV Sindhu returned to the court with a commanding win over N Yigit of Turkey in two straight games. Sindhu dominated winning it easily by 21-12, 21-10 to move into the second round. She will now face Busnan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand. Saina Nehwal will play her first round against Ohori of Japan tomorrow.

The young Indian pairing of Dhruv Kapila and Arjun MR stunned higher-ranked England pair of B Lane and S Vendy of England in two straight games. It was a close-fought first game as both pairs fought for each point before the Indian pair won it 21-19. In the second game, the Indians dominated and won it easily by 21-15 to move into the second round.

Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty continued the impressive form that they displayed in the Thomas Cup defeated C Hemming and Stallwood. The first game saw a close-fought display by both pairs before Reddy and Chirag won it by 23-21. Indian pair dominated the 2nd set winning it easily by 21-15 to move into the 2nd round. They will face Goh SF and Izzuddin of Malaysia. The Malaysian pair defeated the Indian pair of Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Attri.

In the mixed doubles category, Dhruv Kapila and Sikki Reddy defeated Hoo PR and Cheah YS of Malaysia in three thrilling games. The first game saw the Malaysian dominating winning it easily by 21-14. Kapila and Sikki Reddy fought back strongly to win the next two games with 21-17, 21-18 to move into the second. They will face Tang C M and Tse Y S of Hong Kong. Kapila and Sikki Reddy made it into the main round after coming from pre-qualifiers.

Indonesia Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Enter Quarters, Others Crash Out

  The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to make a comeback. At the mid-game break, Danish pair led 11-10. After the break, Kjaer and Sogaard played brilliant badminton winning the first game by 21-16.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games. The Indian pair struggled in the initial phases of the first game trailing by 3-6 before taking 7 points in succession to put the pressure back on the Chinese pair.
