Indian women versus Australian women 3rd T20I: Indian women lose another close game
The Indian women’s team again fell short against the mighty Australian team in the 3rd T20I played at Carrara Oval, Gold Coast on Sunday.
Indian captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to field
first. It was an ideal start as Renuka Singh Thakur dismissed Alyssa Healy with
a good catch by Richa Ghosh. Beth Mooney looked in great touch taking on the
Indian bowlers keeping the scoreboard ticking along with Australian captain Meg
Lanning. Australian women’s team scored 38 for 1 at the end of the first six
overs.
The Australian captain Meg Lanning was dismissed in an
unfortunate manner as tried to cut the ball but hit the wickets off Gakywad’s
bowling. Lanning and Mooney added 39 runs for the 2nd wicket. Beth
Mooney made the batting look easy as she smashed 3 boundaries off Kaur’s
bowling.
Pooja Vastakar got the wicket of Gardner to put the Australian
team under some pressure. The Indian bowlers kept tight lines and lengths kept
taking wickets at regular intervals. Ellyse Perry could not control her shot
providing a simple catch to Vastrakar to leave the hosts in trouble. Tahlia
McGrath joined in Beth Mooney and kept the pressure on Indian bowlers. Mooney
kept her cool and reached half-century off 36 balls.
A brilliant catch by Harmanpreet Kaur ended the innings for
well-set Beth Mooney. Mooney and McGrath added 44 runs for the 5th
wicket. McGrath and Wareham provided the late impetus for the Australian team with a flurry of boundaries to help the Australian team post 149 for 5 in 20 overs.
McGrath and Wareham added unbeaten 32 runs for the 6th wicket.
Chasing 150 runs to win, it was not an ideal start as Shafali
Verma was unfortunately caught with a wayward delivery. The Australian bowlers put
the Indian batters under pressure as Mandhana and Rodrigues struggled to hit
boundaries. Indian women’s team scored 28 for 1 at the end of the first six
overs.
After the field restrictions, Mandhana put some pressure on
Australian bowlers while Rodrigues was not able to time the ball. Wareham struck to dismiss Rodrigues. Rodrigues
and Mandhana added 57 runs for the 2nd wicket. Mandhana showed her
class putting the Australian bowlers under pressure while Kaur looked also
decent. Mandhana completed her half-century off 46 balls. A good catch above her
shoulder by Meg Lanning ended the innings for the stylish left-handed batter. Kaur
and Mandhana added 32 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Soon after, Indian captain, Kaur did not contribute any runs.
Pooja Vastakar was promoted but could not do anything. It was exceptional hitting
by Richa Ghosh who took on the Australian bowlers and left a mark in the final
over with 2 six and 1 four off Carey’s bowling.
It was a decent performance by the Indian team right through
the multi-format series as Richa Ghosh, Pooja Vastrakar, Yastika Bhatia showed
promise and would be looking to showcase their talent in the upcoming WBBL season.
Australian women 149 for 5 in 20 overs ( McGrath 44*, Gayakwad
2/37, Sharma 1/24) beat Indian women 135 for 6 in 20 overs ( Mandhana 52, Richa
Ghosh 23*, Carey 2/42, Gardner 1/22) by 14 runs.

44 off 31 balls and also player of the series for her 86 runs.
