IPL 2021 Match 51: Mumbai Indians stay in contention with a resounding win over RR
Mumbai Indians comeback into contention with a resounding
win over Rajasthan Royals in the 51st match of IPL 2021 played at
Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah on Tuesday.
MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field
first. Evin Lewis began the innings brilliantly putting MI bowlers under
pressure with a flurry of boundaries along with Jaiswal. Nathan Coulter Nile got
the wicket of Jaiswal caught behind by Ishan Kishan. MI bowlers kept tight
lines and lengths to Lewis before dismissing Bumrah produced a peach. Lewis
decided to review the decision, but it was retained to out. At the end of the
first six overs, RR scored 41 for 2.
RR batsmen could not adjust to the conditions as Sanju
Samson was dismissed by James Neesham. At the end of the first timeout, RR
scored 47 for 3. MI bowlers kept tight lines and lengths not allowing them to
score runs easily taking wickets at regular intervals. Nathan Coulter Nile and
James Neesham did the damage for Mumbai Indians.
It was a disappointing batting effort by Rajasthan Royals as
Glenn Phillips also fell cheaply. At the end of the 2nd timeout, RR
made 62 for 5.
After the timeout, MI bowlers did not give an inch to
Rajasthan Royals batsmen and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Rahman gave
RR some reason with a six, but it was not enough as RR posted 90 for 9 in 20
overs.
Chasing 91 runs to win, it was a flying start by MI captain
Rohit Sharma taking on Sakaryia and other RR bowlers. Sanju Samson missed a stumping chance to get rid of the dangerous Rohit. Soon after, Sakaryia struck getting the wicket of Rohit providing an easy catch to Jaiswal. Ishan Kishan coming back into
the XI looked confident with his strokes while Surya Kumar Yadav kept the
pressure on RR bowlers.
Rahman struck the 2nd blow for RR getting rid of
Surya Kumar with a simple catch to substitute Lomror at mid-off. Surya Kumar
Yadav and Kishan added 33 runs for the 2nd wicket. At the end of the
first six overs, MI scored 56 for 2.
After the timeout, Ishan Kishan made the batting look easy
as Chetan Sakaryia struggled for rhythm. Hardik Pandya was promoted to number 4
giving the strike to Kishan. Kishan did the job completing his fifty with a six-off
25 balls. Mumbai Indians won the match by 8 wickets with 70 balls to spare.
Mumbai Indians 94 for
2 in 8.2 overs ( Ishan Kishan 50*, Rohit Sharma 22, Sakaryia 1/36) beat
Rajasthan Royals 90 for 9 in 20 overs ( Evin Lewis 24, Coulter Nile 4/14,
Neesham 3/12) by 8 wickets.
For his figures of 4 for 14 in 4 overs, Nathan Coulter Nile
was awarded the man of the match. Mumbai Indians moves up to 12 points and
improved net run somewhat.
