Uber Cup 2021: Indian women’s team reach quarterfinals with a comfortable win over Scotland
The young Indian team showed proved their worth as they defeated Scotland with a comfortable margin in their second Group match played at Ceres Arena Court 3, Aarhus on Tuesday.
Malvika Bansod had a disappointing outing against the experienced
Kirsty Gilmour losing the game in two straight games. The young Indian player put
some pressure on Gilmour, but the Scottish looked dominating right from the word
go making life tough for Bansod. Scotland
player won the game easily by 13-21, 9-21.
Aditi Bhatt showed great range with a dominating performance
against Racheal Sudgen. Bhatt proved too strong for Scottish player. Bhatt put
the Scotland player under pressure with smashes and drop shots. Bhatt dominated
Sudgen right from word go in the 2nd game and won it easily by
21-14, 21-8 to help India level the tie at 1-1.
In the first doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Rutuparna Panda
proved too strong for their Scotland opponent with commanding straight games
win over Julie Macherpson and Clara Tolerance. The Indian pair looked in
complete control right from the word winning the first game easily at 21-12.
Crasto and Panda made life tough for Scotland's opponent proving too strong
winning it by 21-8 to give India a 2-1 lead.
The 16-year-old Tasnim Mir showed another dominating display
defeating Lauren Middleton in two straight games. The Indian played with
attacking strokes right from the word go. Mir committed mistakes hitting it out.
Despite hitting out, Mir won the first game easily at 21-15.
Mir dominated Middleton in the 2nd game right
from word go taking a 7-0 lead. The Indian continued their domination winning it
by 21-6 to help India win the tie at 3-1 and move into the quarterfinals.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Kirsty Gilmour
and O Donell in thrilling three games. The Indian pair showed great domination
in the first game-winning it easily by 21-8. The second game was a close-fought
affair as both pairs fought for each point before the Scotland pair held their
nerves to win it by 21-19 to take the match into the third set.
Jolly and Gopichand showed their domination against Scotland
pair winning it easily by 21-10 to help India win the tie by 4-1. With this
win, the Indian team made it into the quarterfinals as they defeated Spain in the opening tie with a 3-2 scoreline.
