BWF World Tour Finals 2021: PV Sindhu stuns Yamaguchi in a thriller, Lakshya Sen loses

 PV Sindhu proved her worth going as she made it into the finals beating Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in a thrilling three games while Lakshya Sen lost of BWF World Tour finals played at Bali, Indonesia on Saturday.

The World Champion, Sindhu did not have a great start trailing 0-4 in the first game before equalizing the score at 4-4 and then 9-9. Both players took alternate points before the Indian grabbed 15-14 and then an 18-15 lead. Soon after, Sindhu grabbed 3 successive points in succession to take the first game by 21-15.

It was a close-fought second game also as both players took alternate points before Yamaguchi took a slender 11-10 lead at the interval. After the break, the Japanese looked in complete control and put the Indian under pressure winning it by 21-15 to force the match into the decider.

The third game started off brilliantly as both players took alternate points till 5-5 before Sindhu grabbed an 11-5 lead at the interval. After the break, Yamaguchi fought back somewhat reducing the gap to 11-13 before Sindhu took points in succession to take a 17-12 lead. The Japanese player kept on fighting back leveling the scores at 19-19 before Sindhu took 2 successive points to grab the 3rd game by 21-19 to make it into the finals.

Now she will face An S Young of South Korea. Sindhu has been in brilliant form reaching semi-finals in 3 events since Tokyo Olympics including French Open, Indonesia Masters, Indonesia Open, and now BWF World Tour Finals.

The youngest Indian shuttler to qualify for the BWF World Tour finals, Lakshya Sen could not live up to the reputation losing to Victor Axselen in two straight games. It was a dominating display by the Olympic Champion Axselen winning by 21-13, 21-11.
