ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 Match 14: Unstoppable Australia team makes 4 out of 4
The Australian Women’s Cricket Team continued their winning streak as they defeated West Indies in a one-sided affair played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on Tuesday.
West Indies captain Stefanie Taylor won the toss and decided
to bat first. The decision did not pay off as Ellyse Perry dismissed Hayley
Mathews with a beauty and then Kyica Knight off successive deliveries. Deandra
Dottin and captain Taylor steadied the ship before Perry struck again to
dismiss Dottin. Dottin and Taylor added 30 runs for the 3rd wicket.
At the end of the first 10 overs, West Indies women scored 34 for 3.
Shemaine Campbelle and Taylor showed intent against
top-quality Australian bowling trying to steady the innings. Gardner ended the
partnership dismissing Campbell. Campbell and Taylor added 36 runs for the 4th
wicket. The Australian bowlers did not the West Indies batters score runs
easily and kept picking wickets at regular intervals. On other hand, Taylor
remained steady completing her fifty off 89 balls. She was eventually dismissed
the very next ball to leave West Indies in big trouble.
The Australian bowlers skittled out West Indies for 131 in 45.5
overs. Ellyse Perry and Gardner took 3 wickets each.
Chasing 132 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for the Australian team as they lost 2 early wickets of Alyssa Healy with a return catch
to Mathews and then Meg Lanning caught by Mathews at slips. Haynes was given
out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not out as it was going over
the stumps.
Ellyse Perry struggled not able to rotate the strike. On the
other hand, Haynes looked in decent touch timing ball well. Henry struck
dismissing Perry with another good catch by Mathews. Perry and Haynes added 51
runs for the 3rd wicket.
Haynes and Beth Mooney kept the scoreboard ticking despite a few missed chances by West Indies bowlers. Haynes completed her fifty off 66
balls along with Mooney. Both Australian batters never looked troubled and
chased down the target easily putting on unbeaten 74 runs for the 4th
wicket.
Australian women 132 for 3 in 30.2 overs ( Haynes 83*, Mooney
28*, Henry 1/20, Mathews 1/31) beat West Indies women 131 in 45.5 overs (
Taylor 50, Perry 3/22, Gardner 3/25) by 7 wickets.
For her 3 for 22, Ellyse Perry was named the player of the match. With this win, Australian women won 4 matches in a row.
