ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 Match 6: Australian women too strong for Pakistan
The Australian women’s team registered their successive win of the tournament beating Pakistan easily played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Tuesday.
Australian captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to
field first. The decision paid off as Ellyse Perry and Megan Schutt grabbed two
wickets early. Schutt dismissed Nahida Khan providing catch to Mooney at gully while Perry got rid of Sidra
Ameen to leave Pakistan women struggling. Omamia Sohail and Bismah Maharoof
steadied the ship with some lovely shots to put some pressure on Australian
bowlers. At the end of the first 10 overs, Pakistan women made 37 for 2.
Soon after the field restrictions, Alana King got the wicket
of Sohail with a lovely delivery. Jade Wellington dismissed Nida Dar as Lanning
took a simple catch at slips to leave Pakistan women struggling at 44 for 4.
Aliya Riaz and Maharoof played cautiously as Australian bowlers kept piling
pressure with dot balls, not able to rotate the strike easily. Both Pakistan
batters tried their best to score runs quickly but made life tough for
themselves. Maharoof completed her fifty off 96 balls while Riaz scored her
fifty off 107 deliveries.
Nicola Carey dismissed Riaz trapped in front of the wicket.
Riaz and Maharoof added 99 runs for the 5th wicket. Fatima Sana and
Maharoof provided the impetus with lovely strokes as Carey struggled with her
rhythm. Sana was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not
as it hit the inside edge.
Maharoof and Diana Baig scored some decent runs in the final
over to help Pakistan women post 190 for 6 in 50 overs. Maharoof remained
unbeaten 78 runs while Riaz made 53.
In reply, it was an aggressive start by the Australian
openers as Alyssa Healy and Haynes put the bad deliveries away for boundaries.
Both batters were given a reprieve as Riaz, and Dar dropped chances. Healy and
Haynes looked in sublime touch as they scored 59 for 0 at the end of the first 10 overs.
Soon after the field restrictions, Nashra Sandhu dismissed
Haynes with a simple catch by Maharoof. Australian openers put on 60 runs in a quick time laying a strong foundation. The Australian captain Meg Lanning looked
in brilliant touch timing the ball brilliantly. Healy looked in pain but
continued to score runs easily at a quick pace.
Alyssa Healy completed her fifty off 55 balls and maintained
the momentum for Australia. Sohail produced a good delivery to dismiss Lanning
taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Lanning and Healy added 63 runs for the 2nd
wicket. Ellyse Perry joined in with Healy and kept the pressure on the Pakistan
bowlers. Sohail dismissed Healy giving a simple catch to Sandhu. Healy and Perry
added 30 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Mooney and Ellyse Perry completed the formalities as they
put on unbeaten 40 runs for the 4th wicket to give the Australian team a
dominating 7 wicket win.
Australian women 193 for 3 in 34.4 overs (Alyssa Healy 72,
Lanning 35, Sohail 2/39) beat Pakistan women 190 for 6 in 50 overs (Maharoof
78*, Riaz 53, Alana King 2/24) by 7 wickets.
For her 72 off 79 balls, Alyssa Healy was awarded the player
of the match. With this win, the Australian team moved to the top spot with 4
points.
