FIH Pro Hockey League 2022 Leg 1: Indian team proves too hot for Germany
The Indian men’s hockey team continued their impressive form with a comprehensive 3-0 win over the young German side in the 1st leg of the FIH Pro Hockey League match played at Kalinga Stadium, Bhuvneshwar on Thursday.
It was an aggressive start by the Indian side putting
pressure on the German side. India earned their first penalty corner as Jugraj took the shot but was well defended before Nilkanta's shot went wide. Indian team kept the
pressure on the young German side and did not convert chances into goals. At
the end of the first quarter, the scores remained 0-0.
The second quarter began well for India as Harmanpreet Singh
converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 18th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Indian team continued their attacking play as they earned a penalty corner via review by India. The shot was well saved by German
goalkeeper Stadler. The hosts were not able to convert another chance. Harmanpreet
Singh converted another brilliant penalty corner into a goal in the 27th
minute giving India a 2-0 lead. It was a dominating performance by the Indian team as
they went German circle 16 times as compared to 5 by young Germans.
Indian team began the 3rd quarter on a fast-paced
with aggressive moves. Hardik Singh produced a sensational run that resulted in a penalty corner. The hosts kept the momentum going on as the German team lacked experience.
German defense looked solid and denied the Indian team other further goals. India
converted their 3rd penalty corner into a goal at the dying moments of the 3rd
quarter thanks to a superb deflection by Abhishek. At the end of the 3rd
quarter, India led 3-0.
India began the 4th quarter with a positive move
with a penalty corner, but Stadler saved it to deny them a goal. Germany showed
glimpses of their skills, but Indian goalkeeper Pathak stood tall. Hardik Singh
was awarded a yellow card with 2 minutes left in the game. India registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Germany.
It was a dominating performance by the Indian team with 29
circle penetrations as compared to 13 by Germany. India earned 8 penalty corners,
but Germany did not earn any penalty corners. India was awarded 1 Green and 1
yellow card while the visitors only earned 1 green card.
India consolidates their top position with its 7th
win of the Pro Hockey League tournament. They will face Germany in the 2nd
leg tomorrow.
