IPL 2022 Match 11: Liam Livingstone brilliance gives Punjab Kings dominating win
Liam Livingstone's brilliant performances with both bat and ball helped Punjab Kings register a comfortable win over Chennai Super Kings played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI on Sunday.
CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja won the toss and decided to
field first. The decision paid off as Mukesh Chaudhary got rid of Mayank
Agarwal cheaply. A good throw by Chris Jordan and gather by MS Dhoni resulted
in the run-out of Bhaunka Rajapaksa leaving PBKS in trouble at 14 for 2. Liam
Livingstone showed intent right from the word go and kept the pressure on CSK bowlers.
At the end of the first six overs, PBKS raced away to 72 for 2.
Dhawan and Livingstone maintained the momentum for PBKS. At
the end of the first timeout, PBKS scored 89 for 2. Livingstone smashed the highest
six of the tournament so far with 108 m. He completed fifty off just 27 balls maintaining
momentum. Dwayne Bravo dismissed Dhawan providing an easy catch to Jadeja. Dhawan
and Livingstone added 95 runs for the 3rd wicket. Jitesh Sharma
playing his first IPL match looked impressive with his shot-making. Livingstone's
brilliance came to an end caught by Rayudu trying to hit another massive hit.
CSK bowlers made a strong comeback in the last 5 overs
picking wickets at regular intervals. Jitesh Sharma and Sharukh Khan added 31
runs for the 5th wicket. Chris Jordan and Dwaine Pretorius took
wickets as Punjab Kings posted 180 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 181 runs to win, CSK started off poorly losing
wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Robin Uthappa, and Ravindra Jadeja. Vaibhav
Arora playing his first IPL match grabbed the wickets of Moeen Ali and Uthappa
to leave CSK in deep trouble. Jadeja and Moeen Ali fell without opening their
accounts. At the end of the first six overs, CSK made 27 for 4.
Odean Smith got rid of Ambati Rayudu leaving CSK in tatters.
At the end of the first timeout, CSK made 41 for 5. Shivam Dube took the attack
to Punjab Kings bowlers especially Kagiso Rabada and other bowlers. On other
hand, MS Dhoni could not hit big shots as the run rate climbed up.
Dube reached fifty off 26 balls and looked to keep the
momentum going. Liam Livingstone's dream night continued by dismissing Dube providing a simple catch to Arashdeep Singh. Dube and Dhoni added 62 runs for the 6th
wicket. Livingstone took a blinder dismissing Bravo very next ball to leave CSK
in massive trouble. PBKS bowlers cleaned the innings up bowling out CSK for 126
despite Dhoni’s late charge.
Punjab Kings 180 for 8 in 20 overs (Livingstone 60, Dhawan
33, Dwaine Pretorius 2/30, Chris Jordan 2/23) beat CSK 126 in 18 overs (Dube
57, Dhoni 23, Rahul Chahar 3/25, Livingstone 2/25) by 54 runs.
For his all-around efforts, Liam Livingstone was awarded the
man of the match. He scored 60 off 32 balls and took 2 wickets and 2 catches.
Livingstone's all-round efforts help PBKS win against CSK
