IPL 2022 Match 13: Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed knocks give RCB impressive win

 Thanks to a match-winning knock by Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed, Royal Challengers Bangalore registered an impressive win over Rajasthan Royals played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for RCB as David Willey dismissed Jaiswal with a beauty. Jos Buttler was given reprieve twice dropped by Akash deep on his own bowling and then by David Willey. Devdutt Paddikal showed intent against the former franchise hitting them for boundaries. On other hand, Buttler struggled as RR made just 35 for 1 in the first six overs.

After the field restrictions, Paddikal looked in great touch and made the batting look easy. Buttler also joined in taking on RCB bowlers. At the end of the first timeout, RR scored 73 for 1. Harshal Patel provided a breakthrough by dismissing Paddikal with a high catch by Kohli. The umpires decided to check for a clean catch but was given out. Paddikal and Buttler added 70 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Sanju Samson provided a simple return catch to Hasaranga leaving RR in trouble. Buttler and Hetymer steadied the ship against disciplined RCB bowling, especially by Harshal Patel. At the end of the 2nd timeout, RR scored 89 for 3. Buttler was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned too not out. The explosive hard-hitting batsmen kept the pressure on RCB bowlers completing his fifty off 42 balls. Buttler and Hetymer smashed 42 runs in the last 2 overs from Siraj and Akash deep. It was an explosive knock by both these batsmen to help RR post 169 for 3. Buttler and Hetymer added unbeaten 83 runs for the 4th wicket.

Chasing 170 runs to win, it was a steady start for RCB openers by Du Plessis and Anuj Rawat taking on RR bowlers. Du Plessis survived a close LBW shout given not out but on review, the decision was retained. Samson bought Ashwin into the attack early but failed. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 48 for 0.

Yuzvendra Chahal got the breakthrough for RR dismissing du Plessis providing a simple catch to Boult at long-on. Du Plessis and Rawat added 55 runs laying a strong foundation. With the fall of du Plessis's wicket, the first timeout was called at 55 for 1.

After the timeout, RR bowlers made a strong comeback as Saini grabbed the wicket of Rawat with a good low catch by Samson. A superb pick throw by Samson and gather by Chahal resulted in the wicket of Kohli. Chahal then struck getting rid of David Willey to leave RCB in trouble.

Trent Boult dismissed Sherfane Rutherford with a good catch by Navdeep Saini to leave RCB in trouble. Dinesh Karthik changed the momentum of the innings with 21 runs off Ravichandran Ashwin. Shahbaz Ahmed also joined in with some lusty blows keeping the momentum. At the end of the 2nd timeout, RCB scored 138 for 5.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Karthik continued to milk the bowling making life tough for RR bowlers. Boult struck off his final ball dismissing Shahbaz Ahmed. Shahbaz and Karthik added 67 runs for the 6th wicket. Harshal Patel hit the winning runs to help RCB win by 4 wickets.

RCB 173 for 6 in 19.1 overs (Shahbaz Ahmed 45, Dinesh Karthik 44*, Chahal 2/15) beat RR 169 for 3 in 20 overs (Jos Buttler 70*, Hetymer 42*, Harshal Patel 1/18) by 4 wickets

For his unbeaten 44 off 23 balls, Dinesh  Karthik was named the man of the match award.
