IPL 2022 Match 15: Lucknow Super Giants beat Delhi Capitals in last over thriller
Lucknow Super Giants continued their winning momentum as they defeated Delhi Capitals in a thrilling encounter played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field
first. Prithvi Shaw put the pressure on LSG bowlers right from word go with
boundaries at will. On other hand, Warner playing his first match of this
season looked out of sorts against disciplined LSG bowling. At the end of the 6
overs, Delhi Capitals made 52 for 0.
After the field restrictions, Shaw continued his aggressive
style completing fifty off 30 balls. Krishnappa Gowtham playing the first game for
LSG dismissed the well-set Shaw caught by de Kock. Shaw scored 61 runs out of
the 67 runs partnership. Ravi Bishnoi got rid of the struggling Warner caught
by Badoni. After the fall of Warner’s wicket, the first timeout was called.
Ravi Bishnoi dismissed struggling Rovman Powell cheaply leaving
Delhi Capitals in trouble. Rishabh Pant did not look comfortable with his batting
as LSG bowlers kept tight lines and lengths. At the end of the second timeout,
Delhi Capitals made 87 for 3.
Pant and Sarfaraz Khan showed intent after the timeout putting
LSG bowlers under some pressure. Pant took on Andrew Tye hitting runs to keep the momentum going for Delhi Capitals. Sarfaraz Khan also looked in decent touch
before Jason Holder and Avesh Khan did not allow DC to score runs freely in the
last 3 overs. At the end of 20 overs, Delhi Capitals could only muster 149 for
3. Pant and Sarfraz Khan added unbeaten 75 runs for the 4th wicket.
Chasing 150 runs to win, it was a steady start by KL Rahul
and de Kock. De Kock took the attack to Anrich Nortje taking him for 19 runs
giving the momentum for LSG. At the end of the first six overs, LSG made 48 for 0. With
that, the first timeout was called.
De Kock looked in sublime touch hitting boundaries easily
and keeping the momentum going on for LSG. Kuldeep Yadav eventually struck for DC dismissing
KL Rahul caught by Shaw. Rahul and de Kock added 73 runs laying a strong
foundation. Evin Lewis looked out of sorts before being dismissed by Lalit
Yadav.
De Kock showed intent and completed fifty off just 36 balls.
Deepak Hooda provided good support to de Kock. At the end of the second timeout, LSG
made 101 for 2.
Anrich Nortje was removed from the bowling attack as he
bowled a second waste height no-ball. De Kock put pressure on Kuldeep before dismissing
him with a lovely catch by Sarfaraz Khan. De Kock and Hooda added 36 runs for the
3rd wicket.
Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda struggled against Shardul
Thakur and Rahman. Krunal Pandya hit vital runs in the 19th over to
change momentum in favor of LSG. Shardul dismissed Deepak Hooda with a good
catch by Axar. Ayush Badoni smashed boundary and six to help LSG register 6
wicket win.
LSG 155 for 4 in 19.4 overs (de Kock 80, Kuldeep Yadav 2/31)
beat Delhi Capitals 149 for 3 in 20 overs (Shaw 61, Pant 39*, Bishnoi 2/22) by
6 wickets.
For his 80 off 52 balls, Quinton de Kock was named the man
of the match award. With this win, LSG moved to second in the points table.
