IPL 2022 Match 19: Delhi Capitals register comfortable win over KKR

 Delhi Capitals rose to the occasion as they registered a comfortable win over Kolkata Knight Riders in a high scoring affair played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI on Sunday.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first. Prithvi Shaw started the innings brightly taking on Umesh Yadav from the word go. David Warner also put pressure on KKR bowlers with aggressive hitting. Iyer decided to bring Narine but Shaw and Warner never allowed them to settle for line and length. Shaw took on the short balls hitting for runs. At the end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals' openers raced away to 68 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.

Shaw continued his aggressive form reaching fifty off just 27 balls while Warner also looked in sublime touch hitting boundaries with ease. Varun Chakravarthy eventually got the breakthrough with a good delivery dismissing Shaw. Shaw and Warner added 93 runs laying a strong foundation for a massive total. Pant promoted himself to number 3 putting the KKR bowlers hitting them for big shots. Warner also completed fifty off 35 balls to maintain momentum for DC.

Pant and Warner looked in great touch making life tough for KKR captain Iyer. Andre Russell got the breakthrough by dismissing Pant with a shorter delivery caught by Umesh Yadav. Pant and Warner added 55 runs for the 2nd wicket. Sunil Narine struck twice in quick succession to dismiss Lalit Yadav and then Rovman Powell to bring back KKR into the game. With that wicket, the second timeout was called with the scoreboard reading 161 for 4.

Umesh Yadav dismissed well-set Warner with a good catch by Rahane. Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel took a few balls to settle before launching an attack on KKR bowlers especially Umesh Yadav taking him for 23 runs in the 19th over. Both batsmen smashed Cummins for quick runs to help Delhi Capitals post a massive total of 215 for 5. Thakur and Patel put on unbeaten 49 runs for the 6th wicket.

Chasing a massive total of 216 runs to win, Rahane survived two reviews given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned too not out. Venetaksh Iyer showed intent right from the word go while Rahane struggled to time the ball. Khaleel Ahmed replacing Nortje got the first breakthrough for DC getting rid of Venetaksh Iyer caught by Thakur. Rahane struggled badly with his timing while Shreyas Iyer put the pressure back on DC bowlers with his strokes. A superb running catch by Shardul Thakur ended the innings for Rahane.

At the end of the first six overs, KKR made 43 for 2. Iyer and Nitish Rana scored at a quick pace as KKR ended the first timeout at 74 for 2. Iyer and Rana kept the pressure on the DC bowlers with the required rate climbing up.

Lalit Yadav was bought into the attack and got rid of Rana caught by Shaw at long-on. Rana and Iyer added 69 runs for the 3rd wicket. Shreyas Iyer kept the pressure on DC bowlers completing fifty off 32 balls. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the KKR captain with a simple stumping by Pant to leave KKR in trouble. At the end of the second timeout, KKR looked in trouble at 118 for 4.

Sam Billings showed intent against Axar Patel with the required rate climbing up. Khaleel Ahmed got the wicket of Billings caught by Lalit Yadav trying to hit six. Kuldeep Yadav looked impressive dismissing Cummins and then Sunil Narine to leave KKR in big trouble. Andre Russell tried to give some hopes before Shardul Thakur dismissed him. Thakur dismissed Rashikh Salam giving Delhi Capitals a comfortable win.

Delhi Capitals 215 for 5 in 20 overs (Warner 61, Shaw 51, Sunil Narine 2/21) beat KKR 171 in 19.4 overs (Shreyas Iyer 54, Rana 30, Kuldeep Yadav 4/35, Khaleel Ahmed 3/25) by 44 runs.

For his figures of 4 for 35 in 4 overs, Kuldeep Yadav was named the man of the match award. Delhi Capitals registered their 2nd win of IPL 2022.
