IPL 2022 Match 20: Hetymer and bowlers give RR a thrilling win over LSG

 Thanks to a brilliant effort by Hetymer and bowlers, Rajasthan Royals registered a thrilling win over Lucknow Super Giants played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field first. It was a steady start by RR openers as Buttler came to open innings along with Paddikal. Paddikal was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned too not out. Avesh Khan got the breakthrough by dismissing Buttler with a lovely delivery ending 42 runs opening stand. At the end of the first six overs, RR made 44 for 1.

Sanju Samson and Paddikal looked in trouble with their batting against disciplined LSG bowling. At the end of the first timeout, RR scored 58 for 1. LSG made a strong comeback into the game with 3 quick wickets of Samson, Paddikal, and Van der Dussen to leave RR in trouble. Hetymer struggled to time the ball against good bowling by LSG. At the end of 2nd timeout, RR scored 84 for 4.

Ravichandran Ashwin smashed Gowtham for 2 sixes in over to give momentum for RR. Hetymer put enough pressure on LSG bowlers against Avesh Khan and Jason Holder. R Ashwin became the first batsman in IPL history to be retired out. Ashwin and Hetymer added 68 runs for the 5th wicket. Krunal Pandya dropped a chance to dismiss Hetymer.

Hetymer blasted away LSG bowlers completing his fifty off just 33 balls. Riyan Parag also showed intent with a six-off Jason Holder in the last over. Gowtham took a lovely diving catch to dismiss Parag. Rajasthan Royals posted a competitive total of 165 for 6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 166 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for LSG as Trent Boult produced some magical deliveries to dismiss KL Rahul, Krishnappa Gowtham. Jason Holder was promoted to number 4, but the decision did not pay off as Prasidh Krishna dismissed him to leave LSG in trouble.

Deepak Hooda and de Kock showed intent against top-quality RR bowling. At the end of the first six overs, LSG scored 31 for 3. Kuldeep Sen making his IPL debut impressed with his speed troubling de Kock and Hooda. At the end of the first timeout, LSG made 52 for 3.

Soon after the timeout, Sen dismissed Hooda with a peach to leave LSG in trouble. Hooda and de Kock added 38 runs for the 4th wicket. Chahal looked in superb form troubling LSG batsmen with his variations. Ayush Badoni failed this time dismissed by Chahal. On the other hand, de Kock looked in decent touch keeping the hopes of LSG alive. Chahal got rid of de Kock in an attempt to hit a big shot providing a simple catch to Parag. With that wicket, the second timeout was called.

Chahal struck again to dismiss Krunal Pandya leaving LSG in big trouble. Stoinis playing his first game this season showed intent putting bad deliveries away for boundaries. Chahal struck again to dismiss Chameera via review for LBW. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was overturned.

Marcus Stoinis smashed big shots against Krishna in the 19th over to give LSG a chance. With 15 runs required to defend, Kuldeep Sen held his nerves as Stoinis was not able to score runs as LSG fell short of the target by 3 runs.

Rajasthan Royals 165 for 6 in 20 overs (Hetymer 59*, Paddikal 29, Gowtham 2/30, Holder 2/50) beat Lucknow Super Giants 162 for 8 in 20 overs ( de Kock 39, Stoinis 38*, Chahal 4/41, Boult 2/30) by 3 runs.

For his figures of 4 for 41 in 4 overs, Chahal was named the man of the match award. With this win, RR moved to the top of the points table.
