IPL 2022 Match 22: CSK open their account with an impressive win

 Chennai Super Kings finally got their act together as they registered an impressive win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in a high scoring thriller played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to field first. Ruturaj Gaikwad started off brightly showing intent after a disappointing 4 matches. Hazlewood playing his first IPL match for RCB got rid of Gaikwad with good delivery. Uthappa showed intent putting pressure on the RCB bowlers. Chennai Super Kings scored 35 for 1 at the end of the first six overs.

A superb piece of fielding by Suryash Prabhudessai led to a run-out of Moeen Ali to leave CSK on the backfoot. Shivam Dube put the RCB spinners, Shahbaz Ahmed, with big shots. At the end of the first timeout, CSK scored 55 for 2. Dube and Uthappa looked in great hitting form smashing Hasaranga and other RCB bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Both did not allow the RCB bowlers to settle keeping the scoreboard ticking with big strokes. At the end of the second timeout, CSK scored 105 for 2. Uthappa toyed against RCB bowlers especially Maxwell maintaining momentum. Uthappa completed fifty off 33 balls while Dube reached half-century off 30 balls. Both showed class hitting RCB bowlers with ease. Uthappa was given a reprieve as he was caught but Siraj overstepped. Dube and Uthappa put Akash deep and Siraj to all parts of the ground.

Hasaranga eventually got the breakthrough by dismissing Uthappa caught by Kohli. Uthappa and Dube added a record 165 runs partnership for 3rd wicket. Hasaranga then got rid of Jadeja's very next ball. Dube put up a superb effort as CSK mustered 216 for 4 in 20 overs.

Chasing a mammoth total of 217 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for RCB as Faf du Plessis was caught by Jordan long-on while Kohli provided an easy catch to Dube. Maxwell looked in brilliant touch smashing Theekshana for runs. Theekshana then dismissed Anuj Rawat to leave RCB struggling at 42 for 3 at the end of the first six overs.

Jadeja struck with a lovely delivery to dismiss Maxwell to leave RCB at 50 for 4. Shahbaz Ahmed and Prabhudessai showed intent putting the bad deliveries away for boundaries. At the end of the first timeout, RCB scored 73 for 4.

Prabhudessai impressed with his timing and kept the pressure on CSK bowlers along with Shahbaz Ahmed. Both uncapped Indian batters looked in decent touch with the required run-rate climbing. Theekshana struck for CSK dismissing youngster Prabhudessai for well-made 34. Prabhudessai and Ahmed added 60 runs for the 5th wicket.

Theekshana took his fourth wicket dismissing Shahbaz Ahmed. Dinesh Karthik looked in sublime touch as he got a reprieve with Mukesh Chaudhary dropping a sitter. Hasaranga was dismissed by Jadeja to leave RCB on verge of defeat. At the end of 2nd timeout, RCB ended at 146 for 7.

After the timeout, Rayudu took a one-handed stunner to dismiss Akash deep. Dinesh Karthik showed intent with some big shots against Mukesh Chaudhary giving some hopes for RCB. Karthik kept the pressure on CSK bowlers but was caught brilliantly by Jadeja at the boundary. Siraj and Hazlewood played full quota overs as RCB made 193 for 9.

CSK 216 for 4 in 20 overs (Uthappa 95*, Uthappa 88, Hasaranga 2/35) beat RCB 193 for 9 in 20 overs (Shahbaz Ahmed 41, Karthik 34, Theekshana 4/33, Jadeja 3/39) by 23 runs.

For his unbeaten 95 off 46 balls, Shivam Dube was named the man of the match award.
