IPL 2022 Match 43: Gujarat Titans seals another last over thriller

 Gujarat Titans continued their winning momentum as they registered another last-over thriller against Royal Challengers Bangalore played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI, Mumbai on Saturday.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bat first. Virat Kohli looked confident with his shots against Mohammed Shami in the very first over. Pradeep Sangwan making comeback got the breakthrough dismissing RCB captain du Plessis providing a simple catch to Saha. Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli showed intent making life tough for GT bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 43 for 1. With that, the first timeout was called.

Rajat Patidar took the pressure off Virat Kohli taking on Gujarat Titans bowlers. Kohli on the other hand also showed intent keeping the scoreboard ticking. RCB former captain Kohli reached his first fifty this season off 45 balls. At the end of 2nd timeout, RCB ended at 102 for 1.

Patidar impressed with his strokes completing fifty off just 29 balls. Sangwan in his last over got rid of Patidar caught by Gill at square leg. Patidar and Kohli added 99 runs for the 2nd wicket. Glenn Maxwell was initially not able to hit shots. Shami produced a good delivery to dismiss well-set Kohli.

Dinesh Karthik could not replicate his brilliance caught by Shami at short fine leg. Maxwell impressed with his hitting before Rashid Khan took a lovely catch. Mahipal Lomror playing his first game today showed intent scoring a quickfire cameo. He was caught by Miller, but it hit the spider cam and called a dead ball. Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 170 for 6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 171 runs to win, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill started cautiously as Saha showed intent against disciplined RCB bowling. At the end of the first six overs, Gujarat Titans scored 46 for 0.

Hasaranga got rid of Saha with a good catch by Patidar at long-off to give RCB the breakthrough. Saha and Gill added 51 runs for the opening wicket. Shubman Gill was given out but on review, it was overturned to not out as it did not hit bat. Shahbaz Ahmed eventually got rid of Gill to put GT on the backfoot. With that wicket, the first timeout was called at 68 for 2.

Shahbaz Ahmed struck dismissing GT captain Hardik Pandya providing an easy catch to Lomror. Hasaranga got his 2nd wicket with a lovely rebound catch by substitute wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat off Sai Sudharsan to leave GT on the backfoot. Tewaita was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned as not out because of the ball pitching outside leg. Miller and Tewaita ended 2nd timeout at 113 for 4.

Miller showed intent against Hasaranga keeping the pressure on RCB bowlers. The match looked in favor of RCB before Miller and Tewaita smashed 17 runs off Hazelwood to shift the momentum. Both well-set batters finished the job in the last over to give Gujarat Titans a 6-wicket win. Tewaita and Miller added unbeaten 79 runs.

Gujarat Titans 174 for 4 in 19.3 overs ( Rahul Tewaita 43*, Miller 39*, Hasaranga 2/28, Shahbaz Ahmed 2/26) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 170 for 6 in 20 overs ( Kohli 58, Patidar 52, Sangwan 2/19) by 6 wickets.

For his unbeaten 43 off 25 balls, Rahul Tewaita was named the man of the match. With this win, Gujarat Titans consolidated their top position.
