Korea Open 2022 Day 3: Sindhu, Srikanth and doubles pair qualify for quarterfinals

 The Indian shuttlers had a good outing as three top players made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 500 Korea Open 2022 played at Suechon on Thursday.

PV Sindhu looked in great touch right from the word go putting the opposition under immense pressure. The Indian showed intent on keeping pressure on Aya Ohori of Japan and won the first game easily by 21-15. The second game started off positively with both players taking points before Sindhu took an 11-9 lead at the interval. After the break, it was one-way traffic as the Indian won it by 21-10 to move into the quarterfinals. She will face Busnan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand.

It was curtains for Malvika Bansod as she lost to Chochowong in two straight games. The Thai player looked in great shape right from the word winning it by 21-8, 21-14. Bansod defeated a higher-ranked Chinese player during the first round. Sindhu is the only female shuttler left in the fray. All Indian badminton fans would be hoping to see the Indian perform well and win this tournament also.

Kidambi Srikanth defeated Misha Zilberman of Israel in two straight games. The first game was a close-fought game before Srikanth held his nerves to win the first game 21-18. Srikanth dominated the second game right from word go taking a commanding 11-0 lead at the interval. After the break, Indian never allowed his opponent to enter and won the second game easily at 21-6 to move into the quarterfinals. He will face the So-W-h of South Korea.

Lakshya Sen’s journey ended as he lost SH Rhuvastivo of Indonesia in two straight games. It was a very close-fought first game as both players took points before Rhuvastivto won the first game at 22-20. The second game was a one-sided affair as the Indonesian put enough pressure on Sen winning it by 21-9 to be knocked out of the tournament.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty defeated the Singapore pair of T Hee and Loh K H in two straight games. It was a dominating performance by the Indian pair winning the first game by 21-15. The second game looked even keel before Chirag and Satwik held their nerves to win it by 21-19 to move into the round 8 stage. They will face Kang M-h and Seo S j of South Korea.
