IPL 2022 Match 45: KL Rahul and Mohsin Khan’s brilliance gives LSG close fought win

 Lucknow Super Giants continued their winning form as they defeated Delhi Capitals in a high-scoring match played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul put enough pressure on Delhi Capitals bowlers right from the word go. Shardul Thakur provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing de Kock with a slower delivery caught by Lalit Yadav. De Kock and Thakur added 42 runs laying a strong foundation for a big total. Deepak Hooda looked in great touch right from the word go putting enough pressure on DC bowlers. At the end of the first timeout, LSG made 57 for 1.

Hooda took the attack to Kuldeep Yadav putting him under pressure. At the end of the first timeout, LSG scored 73 for 1. Hooda and KL Rahul kept the momentum going for LSG hitting boundaries and the scoreboard ticking with great attacking strokes. Deepak Hooda completed fifty off 32 balls while Rahul reached half-century off 35 balls. Shardul Thakur got rid of Hooda with a simple return catch. Hooda and Rahul added 95 runs for the 2nd wicket. With that, the second timeout was called.

KL Rahul looked in sensational touch putting Delhi bowlers under pressure with his innovative strokes. Marcus Stoinis was given a reprieve as Lalit Yadav dropped a chance. Thakur took his 3rd wicket dismissing KL Rahul with a lovely catch by Lalit. Rahul and Stoinis added 39 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rahman struggled in the last over bowling lots of extras as Stoinis and Krunal Pandya helped LSG post 195 for 3 in 20 overs.

Chasing 196 runs to win, it was not an ideal start as Prithvi Shaw was dismissed with a short delivery caught by Krishnappa Gowtham. Mohsin Khan struck getting rid of Warner as Badoni took a lovely low catch to leave DC under pressure. Pant took the attack to Krunal Pandya hitting for 19 runs in his first over. Mitchell Marsh and Pant showed intent in keeping the scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first six overs, DC raced away to 66 for 2. With that, the first timeout was called.

Soon after the timeout, Gowtham struck getting rid of Mitchell Marsh who decided not to review the decision as De Kock took a good catch. Marsh and Pant added 60 runs for the 3rd wicket. Pant showed intent with some lovely shots. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Lalit Yadav with a lovely delivery putting DC under pressure at 86 for 4.

Rovman Powell continued his impressive form with big shots while Pant was given a reprieve as KL Rahul dropped a simple catch chance. Mohsin Khan grabbed the important wicket of Pant casting the stumps. Pant and Powell added 34 runs for the 5th wicket. DC went into the second timeout at 124 for 5.

Despite Rovman Powell smashing boundaries, Mohsin Khan got wickets of Powell and Shardul Thakur to dent DC's progress. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel gave a few exciting moments for Delhi Capitals.

With 21 runs required off the last over, Marcus Stoinis held his nerves after Kuldeep Yadav hit a six. He showed class by not allowing Axar to hit big shots. Lucknow Super Giants won the match by just 6 runs. Axar and Kuldeep Yadav added unbeaten 41 runs for the 8th wicket.

Lucknow Super Giants 195 for 3 in 20 overs ( KL Rahul 77, Deepak Hooda 52, Shardul Thakur 3/40) beat Delhi Capitals 189 for 7 in 20 overs ( Pant 44, Axar 42*, Mohsin Khan 4/16) by 6 runs.

For his magical spell of 4 for 16 in 4 overs, Mohsin Khan was named the man of the match award. With this win, LSG moved to second place.
