IPL 2022 Match 46: CSK beat SRH in a high scoring thriller

 Chennai Super Kings registered their third win of the tournament defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high thriller played at MCA Stadium, Pune on Sunday.

SRH captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to field first. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway began the innings cautiously. Washington Sundar went off the field due to an injury. At the end of the first six overs, CSK openers made 40 for 0.

Gaikwad and Conway took the attack to part-time bowler Markram. Umran Malik was taken to the cleaners by CSK openers. At the end of the first timeout, CSK scored 60 for 0. Gaikwad showed intent reaching fifty off 33 balls. Conway also looked in decent touch keeping the momentum going for CSK. CSK openers never allowed SRH bowlers to settle and made life tougher. At the end of 2nd timeout, CSK ended at 123 for 0.

Devon Conway completed fifty off 39 balls and maintained the momentum for CSK. Natarajan got the breakthrough by dismissing Gaikwad caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar one short of a century. Gaikwad and Conway added 182 runs for the opening wicket. MS Dhoni promoted himself to number 3 but failed to contribute anything. Natarajan bowled a good final over not allowing Conway and Jadeja to score runs easily. Thanks to Gaikwad and Conway’s brilliance, CSK posted 202 for 2 in 20 overs.

Chasing 203 runs to win, Abhishek Sharma showed intent right from the word go maintaining the momentum for SRH along with Williamson. Mukesh Chaudhary struck for CSK getting rid of dangerous Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek and Williamson added 58 laying a strong foundation. Mukesh then got rid of Rahul Tripathi with a lovely delivery dent SRH run chase. At the end of the first 6 overs, SRH ended at 58 for 2. With that, the first timeout was called.

Williamson and Aiden Markram showed intent to put pressure back on CSK bowlers. Santer dismissed Markram with a simple catch to Jadeja. Williamson and Markram added 30 runs for the 3rd wicket. Nicolas Pooran looked in decent touch putting pressure on CSK bowlers along with Williamson with the required rate climbing.

Dwaine Pretorius deceived Williamson with a slower delivery and was given LBW. Williamson and Pooran added 38 runs for the 4th wicket. At the end of the second timeout, SRH ended at 135 for 4.

Theekshana bowled a brilliant over putting enough pressure on SRH batsmen. Mukesh got wickets of Shashank Singh and Sundar in the same over.  Pooran showed his class by hitting big shots and completing fifty off 29 balls. The hard-hitting West Indies batsmen was dropped twice by Theekshana and then by Santer. Despite his efforts, CSK won the match by 13 runs.

CSK 202 for 2 in 20 overs ( Gaikwad 99, Conway 85*, Natarajan 2/42) beat SRH 189 for 6 in 20 overs ( Pooran 64*, Williamson 47, Mukesh Chaudhary 4/46) by 13 runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was named the man of the match award for his 99. CSK registered their 3rd win of this season.
