IPL 2022 Match 47: KKR stay alive in the tournament with a comfortable win

 Kolkata Knight Riders ended their 5-match losing streak as they defeated Rajasthan Royals played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for KKR as Umesh Yadav got rid of Devdutt Paddikal with a return catch. Jos Buttler struggled with his timing as KKR bowlers did not allow them to score runs easily. At the end of the first six overs, Rajasthan Royals made 38 for 1.

Samson looked in decent touch putting pressure on the KKR bowlers while Buttler was not able to time the ball. Southee got rid of Buttler providing a simple catch to Mavi. Buttler and Samson added 48 runs for the 2nd wicket. With that wicket, the first timeout was called at 55 for 2.

Karun Nair making a comeback into the XI struggled with his timing due to disciplined KKR bowling. Anukul Roy looked impressive and grabbed the wicket of Karun Nair. Nair and Samson added 35 runs for the 3rd wicket. Samson showed his brilliant skills completing fifty off 38 balls. At the end of the second timeout, RR reached 108 for 3.

Riyan Parag provided some impetus to the innings with some lovely shots. KKR bowlers kept it tight picking wickets of Parag and Samson in quick succession to leave RR in trouble. Shimron Hetymer showed his intent smashing Tim Southee for 20 runs along with Ashwin giving some momentum. Hetymer and Ashwin put on unbeaten 37 runs for the 6th wicket. Rajasthan Royals posted 152 for 5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 153 runs to win, KKR got off to a shaky start as Aaron Finch went cheaply as Kuldeep Sen produced a stunning delivery. Baba Indrajith looked impressive before Prasidh Krishna dismissed him to leave KKR in trouble. At the end of the first six overs, KKR scored 32 for 2.

Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana maintained the momentum for KKR putting RR spinners under pressure. At the end of the first timeout, KKR scored 50 for 2.

Boult got the breakthrough by dismissing Shreyas Iyer with a review for caught behind. The umpire called not out but on review, it was overturned to out as it hit the gloves. Shreyas and Nitish Rana added 60 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana looked composed as they did not allow RR bowlers to settle. At the end of the second timeout, KKR reached 114 for 3. Rinku Singh showed impressive skills against Chahal maintaining the momentum. The umpires called wide calls as both Rana and Rinku tried to play innovative shots.

Nitish Rana hit the winning runs with a six to help KKR register 7 wicket win. Rana and Rinku Singh added unbeaten 66 runs for the 4th wicket.

KKR 158 for 3 in 19.1 overs (Nitish Rana 48*, Rinku Singh 42*, Boult 1/25) beat RR 152 for 5 in 20 overs (Samson 54, Hetymer 27*, Southee 2/46) by 7 wickets.

For his unbeaten 42 off 23 balls, Rinku Singh was named the man of the match award. With this win, KKR registered their fourth win of IPL 2022.
