IPL 2022 Match 49: RCB register close fought win over CSK

 Royal Challengers Bangalore registered a close-fought win over Chennai Super Kings to stay in contention for the playoffs stage played at MCA Stadium, Pune on Wednesday.

CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli began the innings cautiously against Mukesh Chaudhary. After the initial slow start, du Plessis and Kohli took attacked Mukesh and Simarjeet Singh under pressure. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 57 for 0.

Moeen Ali struck immediately getting rid of du Plessis with an easy catch to Ravindra Jadeja. Faf and Kohli added 62 runs for the opening wicket. Moeen Ali and Theekshana tied up with disciplined bowling. Maxwell was promoted at number 3 but the experiment failed as he was run out with a lovely throw by Uthappa and gathered MS Dhoni to leave RCB in trouble. With that wicket, the first timeout was taken at 76 for 2.

Moeen produced a stunning delivery to dismiss Kohli to leave RCB in trouble. Mahipal Lomror and Rajat Patidar steadied the ship keeping the scoreboard ticking. Lomror was promoted at number 4 and showed intent along with Patidar. A sensational diving catch by Mukesh Chaudhary resulted in the wicket of Patidar. Patidar and Lomror added 44 runs for the 4th wicket. With that, the second timeout was taken at 123 for 4.

Mahipal Lomror looked impressive with his shot-making putting bad deliveries away for boundaries and sixes. Theekshana got 3 wickets in an over getting wickets of Lomror, Hasaranga, and Shahbaz Ahmed to put RCB in trouble. Lomror and Karthik added 32 runs for the 5th wicket.

Dinesh Karthik was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned as it was pitching outside leg. He then smashed 2 sixes in the final over helping Royal Challengers Bangalore post 173 for 8.

Chasing 174 runs to win, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway struggled initially before putting the RCB bowlers under pressure with positive intent. At the end of the first six overs, CSK made 51 for 0. Shahbaz Ahmed provided a much-needed breakthrough getting the wicket of Gaikwad caught by substitute Prabhudessai. Gaikwad and Conway added 54 runs laying a strong foundation. Maxwell struck getting the wicket of Uthappa caught by Prabhudessai at backward point to put CSK in trouble. CSK ended the first timeout at 72 for 2.

Maxwell struck again to get rid of Rayudu leaving CSK in trouble. Devon Conway and Moeen Ali showed intent with the required run rate climbing. Conway impressed with a well-made fifty-off 33 balls. Hasaranga dismissed well-set Conway providing a simple catch to Shahbaz Ahmed at deep square leg. Conway and Moeen Ali added 34 runs for the 4th wicket. At the end of the second timeout, CSK ended at 118 for 4.

Harshal Patel looked impressive with his bowling-grabbing wickets of Jadeja as Kohli took a good high catch. He then got wickets of Moeen Ali and Dwaine Pretorius to leave CSK on brink of losing. Royal Challengers Bangalore registered 13 runs win.

RCB 173 for 8 in 20 overs ( Lomror 42, du Plessis 38, Theekshana 3/28) beat CSK 160 for 8 in 20 overs ( Conway 56, Moeen Ali 34, Harshal Patel 3/35, Maxwell 2/22) by 13 runs.

For his figures of 3 for 35 in 4 overs, Harshal Patel was named the man of the match award. With this win, RCB moved to fourth place. 









RCB beat CSK by 13 runs to move into fourth place
