IPL 2022 Match 53: Dominating performance by LSG

 Lucknow Super Giants registered a dominating win over Kolkata Knight Riders with all-around contributions played at MCA Stadium, Pune on Saturday.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start as the captain Shreyas produced a direct hit to run-out KL Rahul without facing any deliveries. Quinton de Kock showed his intent right from the word putting Shivam Mavi under pressure with positive strokes. Deepak Hooda also looked impressive not allowing KKR bowlers to settle. At the end of the first six overs, LSG raced away to 66 for 1. With that, the first timeout was called.

De Kock showed intent in keeping the momentum going reaching fifty off just 27 balls. Narine produced the magic getting rid of dangerous de Kock caught by Mavi. De Kock and Deepak Hooda added 71 runs for the 2nd wicket. Krunal Pandya was not able to time the ball against disciplined KKR bowling.

Andre Russell struck dismissing Deepak Hooda caught by Shreyas Iyer. At the end of the second timeout, LSG made 110 for 3. KKR bowlers stifled LSG batsmen with tight bowling. Russell struck again to dismiss Krunal Pandya to leave LSG in trouble. Marcus Stoinis smashed Shivam Mavi for 30 runs in the 19th over including 5 sixes including 3 by Stoinis and 2 by Jason Holder. Stoinis and Badoni added 38 runs for the 5th wicket.

Tim Southee bowled a superb 20th over dismissing Holder and then Baba Indrajith ran out Chameera. Lucknow Super Giants posted a competitive total of 176 for 7 in 20 overs.

Chasing 177 runs to win, Mohsin Khan produced a superb 1st over dismissing Indrajith and not giving any runs. LSG fast bowlers did not allow KKR batsmen to score runs easily. Chameera got rid of Shreyas Iyer with a short delivery caught by Badoni. Holder got the wicket of Aaron Finch with another superb ball to leave KKR in trouble. At the end of the first six overs, KKR looked in deep trouble at 25 for 3.

Avesh Khan produced a superb yorker to get rid of Nitish Rana making life tough for KKR. Andre Russell took Jason Holder to the cleaners hitting him for 25 runs to give hope. At the end of the first timeout, KKR ended at 55 for 4.

After the timeout, Ravi Bishnoi got rid of Rinku Singh caught by Krunal Pandya. Russell and Rinku Singh added 44 runs for the 5th wicket. Avesh Khan did the job for LSG getting rid of dangerous Russell caught by Holder at third man and then Anukul Roy to leave KKR in deep trouble. At the end of the second timeout, KKR made 88 for 7.

Sunil Narine provided the impetus with some lovely shots before Holder got wickets of Narine and Southee in quick succession. Harshit Rana was run-out while attempting the third run with a superb throw by Badoni and gather by Holder to bowl out KKR for 101.

Lucknow Super Giants 176 for 7 in 20 overs (de Kock 50, Hooda 41, Russell 2/22) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 101 in 14.3 overs ( Russell 45, Narine 22, Avesh Khan 3/19, Holder 3/31) by 75 runs.

For his figures of 3 for 16 in 4 overs, Avesh Khan was named the man of the match award. With this win, LSG moved to the top of the points table.
