IPL 2022 Match 54: Emphatic win for RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore produced a dominating win over lackluster Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first match of the day played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start as Virat Kohli was dismissed off the very first ball by J Suchith caught by Williamson at short midwicket. Rajat Patidar and Faf du Plessis took some time before launching an attack on the SRH bowlers. Patidar looked in great shape making life tough for Kane Williamson. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 47 for 1 and ended the first timeout at 57 for a loss of 1 wicket.

Patidar and du Plessis put SRH bowlers under pressure with some big shots, especially against Umran Malik taken for 20 runs in his first over. Both made life tough for SRH bowlers not allowing them to settle. Du Plessis looked decent enough as he completed fifty off 34 balls while Patidar showed his class before being caught by Rahul Tripathi. Du Plessis and Patidar added 105 runs for the 2nd wicket. Glenn Maxwell showed his intent with a big reverse sweep six but struggled after that. At the end of the second timeout, RCB ended at 118 for 2.

Maxwell took the attack to SRH bowlers maintaining the momentum along with du Plessis. Karthik Tyagi eventually got rid of Maxwell trying to hit a six providing an easy catch to Markram. Maxwell and du Plessis added 54 runs for the 3rd wicket. Dinesh Karthik showed his intent by smashing Farqooi for 4 sixes and 1 boundary in the final over to help RCB post 192 for 3.

Chasing a massive total of 193 runs to win, it was a shaky start as Kane Williamson was brilliantly run out with a direct hit by Shahbaz Ahmed. Glenn Maxwell turned his arm over to dismiss Abhishek Sharma without opening his account to leave SRH in trouble at 2 for 2. Aiden Markram and Rahul Tripathi put enough pressure on the RCB bowlers with lovely shots. At the end of the first six overs, SRH ended at 39 for 2.

Hasaranga got the wicket of Markram in his first over providing a simple catch to Kohli at deep midwicket. Markram and Tripathi added 50 runs for the 3rd wicket. With that wicket, the first timeout was called at 51 for 3.

Tripathi and Nicolas Pooran showed intent with the required run rate climbing up. Hasaranga struck again to dismiss Pooran caught by Shahbaz Ahmed. Pooran and Tripathi added 38 runs for the 4th wicket. Hasaranga was at his prime best getting rid of J Suchith with a lovely delivery stumped by Dinesh Karthik. Rahul Tripathi showed his class reaching fifty off 32 balls. Hazelwood did the damage by getting the wicket of well-set Tripathi to leave SRH on the backfoot. With that wicket, the second timeout was called at 114 for 6.

Shashank Singh was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not out as it was going over the stumps. Hasaranga then got wickets of Shashank and then Umran Malik off successive deliveries to leave SRH on the brink of defeat.  Harshal Patel ended the match for RCB getting rid of Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowling them for 125.

RCB 192 for 3 in 20 overs ( du Plessis 73*, Patidar 48, Suchith 2/30) beat SRH 125 in 19.2 overs ( Rahul Tripathi 58, Hasaranga 5/18) by 67 runs.

For his figures of 5 for 18 in 4 overs, Hasaranga was named the man of the match award. With this win, RCB moved to 14 points and remain at number 4th place.

Hasranaga 5 for 18 helps RCB register 67 runs win over SRH
