IPL 2022 Match 55: Ruthless Chennai crush Delhi Capitals
Chennai Super Kings showed their true colors as they crushed Delhi Capitals in a one-sided affair played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided
to field first. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway showed intent right from word
go putting DC bowlers under pressure. Conway looked impressive with strokes and
made life tough for Pant. At the end of the first six overs, CSK ended at 57 for 0.
At the end of the first timeout, CSK made 61 for 0. Conway put
enough pressure on Kuldeep Yadav in his first over while Gaikwad also put bad
deliveries away for boundaries. Conway completed fifty off 27 balls to keep CSK's
momentum going. Anrich Nortje provided the breakthrough getting Gaikwad with a
good bouncer with an easy catch to Axar. Gaikwad and Conway added 110 runs for the
1st wicket. At the end of the second timeout, CSK scored 131 for 1.
Shivam Dube replaced Ravindra Jadeja in the squad and showed
his class by putting DC bowlers under pressure. Khaleel Ahmed got rid of
well-set Conway with a simple catch to Pant. Dube and Conway added 59 runs for
the 2nd wicket. Mitchell Marsh struck in the next over dismissing
Dube. MS Dhoni clocked back to the old days with a quickfire cameo remaining not
out on 21 off 9 balls. Nortje produced some decent deliveries picking away
wickets. Thanks to brilliant knocks by Conway, Gaikwad, Dhoni, Dube, CSK posted
a massive total of 208 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 209 runs to win, David Warner showed intent right
from the word go. Simrajeet Singh got his first IPL wicket dismissing Srikar
Bharat caught by Moeen Ali. Warner was given out for LBW via umpire call to
leave DC in trouble. Pant and Mitchell Marsh kept the momentum going putting bad
deliveries away for boundaries. At the end of the first six overs, DC scored 59 for
2.
Pant and Marsh put enough pressure on CSK bowlers. At the
end of the first timeout, DC made 71 for 2. Moeen Ali broke the backbone of DC
batting getting 3 important wickets including Marsh, Pant, and then Ripal Patel.
Mitchell and Pant added 36 runs for the 3rd wicket. Mukesh Chaudhary
looked impressive dismissing Axar and then Rovman Powell in quick succession to
leave DC in tatters.
It was a dominating bowling performance by CSK as Simrajeet
Singh got rid of Kuldeep Yadav. At the end of the second timeout, DC looked in deep
trouble at 99 for 8. Dwayne Bravo dismissed Thakur and Khaleel Ahmed to bowl
out Delhi for 117.
Chennai Super Kings 208 for 6 in 20 overs (Conway 87, Gaikwad
41, Nortje 3/42, Khaleel 2/28) beat Delhi Capitals 117 in 17.4 overs (Shardul
Thakur 24, Moeen Ali 3/13) by 91 runs.
For his 87 off 49 balls, Devon Conway was named the man of
the match award.
