India versus South Africa 1st T20I: David Miller and Van der Dussen partnership stun India with record chase
Thanks to a sensational partnership between Miller and Van der Dussen, South Africa chased down a massive target in the 1st T20I match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday.
South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided
to field first. Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad showed intent right from word
go but with lucky shots going over the boundaries. After a few balls, Gaikwad and
Kishan looked settled making life tough for South African bowlers. At the end
of the first six overs, India made 51 for 0.
Wayne Parnell struck for South Africa getting rid of Gaikwad
caught by Bavuma. Gaikwad and Kishan added 57 runs laying a strong foundation. Shreyas
Iyer came to the crease looking in great touch putting bad deliveries away for
boundaries. On other hand, Ishan Kishan also kept the momentum going with big
shots against Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj not allowing them to settle. Kishan
completed fifty off 37 balls.
Quinton de Kock missed a golden stumping chance to get rid
of Shreyas Iyer. Kishan blasted away the South African bowlers to all parts
with clean hitting. In an attempt to hit another big shot, Kishan was caught by
Stubbs ending an 80 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Shreyas
Iyer was bowled by Dwaine Pretorius. Hardik Pandya continued his dream form
blasting away South African bowlers with clean hitting. Pant also joined in the
party putting enough pressure on the visitors. The stand-in captain Pant was
caught by Van der Dussen. Pant and Hardik Pandya added 46 runs in quick time
for the 4th wicket. Thanks to a superb batting effort, the Indian team posted 211
for 4 in 20 overs.
Chasing 212 runs to win, Temba Bavuma began off well before
Bhuvneshwar Kumar deceived him with a slower caught by Pant to break quickfire
partnership. De Kock took the attack to Yuzvendra Chahal in his first over keeping
the momentum for South Africa. Dwaine Pretorius was promoted to number 3 and took
charge. Harshal Patel bowled a superb 1st over grabbing the wicket
of Pretorius with variations. Pretorius and de Kock added 39 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
At the end of the first six overs, South Africa scored 61 for 2.
Axar Patel got rid of de Kock trying to hit a big shot caught by Ishan Kishan
to leave the visitors in trouble. Van der Dussen struggled with his timing
while David Miller put enough pressure on Indian bowlers with clean hitting especially
against Avesh Khan to change the momentum.
Van der Dussen struggled before smashing 22 runs off Harshal
Patel’s over and completing fifty off 37 balls. Both Miller and Van der Dussen stole
the show with clean hitting making life tough for the Indian bowlers. Shreyas
Iyer dropped a tough chance to dismiss der Dussen. Both batsmen kept momentum
for South Africa.
Van der Dussen completed the job by hitting a boundary to help
South Africa break India's 12 successive match-winning streak. Van der Dussen and
Miller put on unbeaten 131 runs to give South Africa a 7-wicket win with 5 balls
to spare.
South Africa 212 for 3 in 19.1 overs ( Van der Dussen 75*,
Miller 64*, Axar Patel 1/40) beat India 211 for 4 in 20 overs ( Ishan Kishan
76, Shreyas Iyer 36, Nortje 1/36) by 7 wickets.
For his unbeaten 64 off 31 balls, David Miller was named the
man of the match award. South Africa takes a 1-0 lead in the 5 matches T20I series.
