India versus South Africa 2nd T20I: Heinrich Klassen and bowlers lead South Africa to 2-0 lead
The South African team again showed their skills as they defeated India in the 2nd T20I match played at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Sunday.
South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided
to field first. It was an ideal start for the visitors as Kagiso Rabada got rid
of Gaikwad caught by Keshav Maharaj at backward point. Ishan Kishan looked in
decent touch putting Wayne Parnell and Nortje under immense with his
power-hitting. On other hand, Shreyas Iyer struggled to keep the momentum
going. At the end of the first six overs, India scored 42 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Nortje got the breakthrough
dismissing Ishan Kishan trying to pull but caught by Der Dussen. Kishan and
Iyer added 45 runs for the 2nd wicket. The Indian captain Pant was
not able to control the shot caught by der Dussen to leave India in some
trouble. Shreyas Iyer looked in decent touch against Keshav Maharaj and Shamsi
keeping the momentum going for India. Hardik Pandya also could not contribute
much as he was bowled by Parnell. Dwaine Pretorius got another wicket for South
Africa getting the wicket of Shreyas Iyer.
Axar Patel was promoted ahead of Dinesh Karthik and could
not do anything substantial. Dinesh Karthik struggled initially but maintained
the momentum along with Harshal Patel. Both added unbeaten 36 runs in 3 overs
to help Team India post 148 for 6 in 20 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar created a significant impact getting three big
wickets of Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius, and dangerous man Van der Dussen
to put the South African team under pressure. At the end of the first six overs, South
Africa looked in trouble at 29 for 3.
Klassen showed intent right from the word go and put Indian
bowlers under pressure with big shots. On the other hand, Bavuma looked
impressive with his shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. Klassen was severe on
loose bowling by Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel to release some pressure. Chahal produced
a peach to dismiss Bavuma. Bavuma and Klassen added 64 runs for the 4th
wicket. Klassen looked in excellent hitting form completing fifty off 32 balls to
keep South Africa on course for a victory.
Harshal Patel eventually dismissed the dangerous Klassen
with a good catch by Ravi Bishnoi. Klassen and Miller added 51 runs for the 5th
wicket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got his fourth wicket by dismissing Wayne Parnell. David
Miller completed the formalities hitting winning runs to help South Africa
chase down the target by 4 wickets.
South Africa 149 for 6 in 20 overs (Klassen 81, Bavuma 35,
Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4/13) beat India 148 for 6 in 20 overs (Shreyas Iyer 40,
Kishan 34, Nortje 2/36, Rabada 1/15) by 4 wickets.
For his 81 off 46 balls, Klassen was awarded the man of the
match award. South Africa takes a 2-0 lead in the series. The third T20I will
be played at Vizag on 14th June.
