Indonesia Open 2022: HS Prannoy enters semi-finals
HS Prannoy continued his impressive run with a comfortable win over Rasmus Gemke of Denmark in the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2022 played in Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday.
The Indian dominated Gemke right from the word go not
allowing him to settle with his strokes. Prannoy kept the momentum and took a
commanding lead at the mid-game break. After the break, the Indian maintained
his attacking play winning the first game easily at 21-14.
Prannoy kept the pressure going on in the 2nd
game with attacking shots and taking a commanding lead again. After the break,
the Indian looked in complete control winning the second game easily by 21-12
to move into the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament.
In the other men’s singles quarterfinals, Victor Axelsen defeated
Anthony Gingting in three games. The Danish player dominated the Indonesian
winning it 21-13. Gingting proved his worth holding onto his nerves to win the second
game by 21-19.
The third game saw Victor dominating winning it by 21-9 to
move into the semi-finals. He will face Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia. Lee Zii Jia
defeated Loh of Singapore in three games. Lee won the first game by 21-18 after
a close-fought affair in the first game. In the second game, Loh dominated his opposition
winning it by 21-16 to move into the decider.
Both players fought for each point as the match went right
down the wire with Lee holding onto his nerves to win the decider by 22-20 to move
into the semi-finals.
In the first semi-finals, Axelsen will take on Lee while
Prannoy will face Zhao Jungpeng of China. Zhao defeated Lee Chik of Hong Kong
in three games. Zhao registered a comfortable 21-14 win in the first game before
Lee came back strongly to win the second game by 21-17 to force the game into a decider.
Zhao showed his class in the third and deciding game to win
it easily by 21-11. It promises to be an exciting encounter hoping to see
Prannoy qualify for the finals after such dominating performances so far.
