Indonesia Open 2022: HS Prannoy progress into quarterfinals, others crash out

 The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing day as only HS Prannoy made it into the next round of the prestigious Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2022 played in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday.

Starting the day, Sameer Verma lost to Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in two straight games. The Indian did not look comfortable at all losing by 10-21,13-21 to be knocked out. Lee kept the pressure right from the word go maintaining the pressure on Sameer.

HS Prannoy defeated Na Ka Long Anus of Hong Kong in two straight games. It was a dominating performance by the Indian who looked in complete control right from the word go. At the mid-game interval, Prannoy had a commanding 11-2 lead. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Indian kept the momentum winning the first game easily at 21-11.

The second game was a close-fought affair as both players fought for each point. Prannoy played some lovely smashes putting the opposition under pressure. At the mid-game interval, the Indian led 11-9. After the break, both players fought for each point before Prannoy won the second game easily at 21-18 to move into the quarterfinals. He will face Rasmus Gemke of Denmark who defeated Leverdez in two straight games 21-12, 21-15.

The men’s doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun lost to Olympic silver medallist Li YC and Ou XY of China in two straight games. It was an impressive performance by the young Indian pairing who showed great fight and skills during the first game before losing in a close-fought affair by 19-21.

The Indian pair struggled in the 2nd game losing it by 15-21. It was an impressive performance by Kapila and Arjun.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost to World number Chen QC and Jia YF of China in two straight games. The Indian pairing showed some fight before losing by 16-21, 13-21 to be knocked out.
