Ranji Trophy 2021/22 Quarterfinals summary: Mumbai, UP, Madhya Pradesh and Bengal qualify for next round
The 2021/22 Ranji Trophy quarterfinals saw Uttar Pradesh qualifying for the semi-finals with a 5 wicket win over Karanakta while Mumbai thrashed Uttarakhand by a record margin.
In the other quarterfinals, Madhya Pradesh registered a thumping 10 wicket win over Punjab to move into the semi-finals while Bengal earned first innings lead over Jharkhand.
Bengal created history as their top nine batsmen scored half-centuries against Jharkhand played at Just Cricket Academy, Bengaluru. It was a dominating performance as Gharami 186, Majumdar 117, Tiwary 73, Abhishek Porel 68, Shahbaz Ahmed 78, Sayan Mondal 53, and Akash deep Singh's quickfire 53 helped Bengal declare their innings on 773 for 7 on the 3rd day.
Bengal bowlers kept a tight leash on Jharkhand batsmen and
bowled them out for 298 runs in their first innings. They decided to bat the
second time.

Quarterfinals 2
Mumbai recorded the highest ever win over Uttarakhand in
first-class cricket on the fourth day played at KSCA Alur 2 Ground, Alur. It
was a dominating performance by Mumbai right from word go. After being invited by
Uttarakhand captain, brilliant knocks by Suved Parkar with 252 and Sarfaraz
Khan 153, cameos by Mulani and lower-order batsmen, Mumbai declared their
innings on 647 for 8 on the 2nd day.
Shams Mulani created havoc with his bowling with 5 wickets
as other Mumbai bundled out Uttarakhand for 114 runs in the first innings. Mumbai
decided to bat second time and declared their innings on 261 for 3.
Mumbai looked in threatening form and bowled out Uttarakhand for
69 runs in their 2nd innings setting a target of 795 runs.
Mumbai 647 for 8 in 166.4 overs ( Suved Parkar 252, Sarfraz
Khan 153, Deepak Dhapola 3/89) and 261 for 3 in 58 overs ( Jaiswal 103, Shaw
72, Negi 1/31) beat Uttarakhand 114 in 41.1 overs ( Kamal Singh 40, Mulani
5/39) and 69 in 27.5 overs ( Shivam Khurana 25*, Kunal Chandela 21, Dhawal Kulkarni
3/11, Kotian 3/13) by 725 runs.
For his brilliant 252, Suved Parkar was named the man of the
match award.
Quarterfinals 3
Karnataka versus Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh created history as they defeated Karanakta for
the first time in Ranji Trophy history. UP captain Karan Sharma won the toss
and decided to field first.
After a decent start by Karnataka, UP bowlers made a strong
comeback to limit Karanakta to 253 runs on the 2nd morning. A superb
all-around bowling effort by Karanakta bowlers resulted in bowling out Uttar
Pradesh for 155. Shivam Mavi and Ankit Rajpoot added 44 runs vital runs for
the last wicket to reduce the lead.
On a positive note, R Samarth and Mayank Agarwal began the 2nd innings before UP bowlers turned the tables on Karanakta batsmen. Karnataka
captain Manish Pandey was brilliantly run-out with a direct hit by Karan
Sharma. UP bowled out Karnataka for 114 runs in the 2nd innings
setting 213 runs target.
After losing 2 early wickets, Priyam Garg showed intent
right from word go putting pressure on Karanakta bowlers. Garg fell after reaching
fifty while Karan Sharma looked cautious. Rinku Singh and Dhruv Juryel did not
contribute much. Karan Sharma led from the front and never looked in trouble along
with debutant Prince Yadav. Both added unbeaten 99 runs for the 6th
wicket.
Uttar Pradesh 155 in 37.3 overs ( Garg 39, Rinku Singh 33,
Ronit More 3/47, Kaverappa 2/19) and 213 for 5 in 65.2 overs ( Karan Sharma
93*, Garg 52, Vyshak 3/47) beat 253 in
84 overs ( R Samarth 57, Shreyas Gopal 56*, KV Siddharth 37, Saurabh Kumar 4/73,
Shivam Mavi 3/40) and 114 in 39 overs ( Srinivas Sharath 23*, Agarwal 22, Saurabh
Kumar 3/39, Rajpoot 2/15) by 5 wickets.
For his unbeaten 93, Karan Sharma was named the man of the
match award.
Quarterfinals 4
Madhya Pradesh proved too strong for Punjab as they defeated
them by 10 wickets on the fourth day played at KSCA Alur 3 Ground, Alur. Punjab
captain Abishek Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Apart from Abhishek
Sharma, Anmolpreet Singh 47 runs each and Sanvir Singh 41, Madhya Pradesh
bowlers skittled out Punjab for just 219.
In reply, Madhya Pradesh ended the first day on 5 for 0.
Yash Dubey and Himanshu Mantri started off brilliantly putting on 64 runs laying
a strong foundation. Coming at number 3, Shubham Sharma and Mantri looked in
great touch adding 120 runs for the 2nd wicket. Madhya Pradesh ended
the 2nd day at 238 for 2.
Shubham Sharma, Rajat Patidar, and Akshat Raghuvanshi put on valuable
runs. Vinay Chaudhary put on an excellent display of bowling grabbing 5 wickets
to bowl out Madhya Pradesh for 397. The second innings saw Punjab struggling
with their batting. Karthikeya displayed great control and left Punjab at 120
for 5 at the end of day 3.
Karthikeya and Saransh Jain grabbed 10 wickets between them
to skittle out Punjab for 203. MP openers Yash Dubey and Mantri completed the formalities
winning the match by 10 wickets.

Mantri 5*) beat Punjab 219 in 71.3 overs
( Abhishek Sharma 47, Anmolpreet Singh 47, Anubhav Agarwal 3/36, Puneet Datey
3/48) and 203 in 68.4 overs ( Anmol Malhotra 34, Anmolpreet Singh 31, Kumar
Kartikeya 6/50, Saransh Jain 4/100) by 10 wickets
For his 102, Shubham Sharma was named the man of the match
award.
