Day 2 round up of the ICC World T20 qualifier B

 The 2nd day saw hosts Zimbabwe and the United States of America registering wins to confirm their places in the semi-finals. In another group, Netherlands won their 2nd successive win while Papua New Guinea registered their first win.

Group A

Zimbabwe registered a comfortable win over Jersey in their 2nd match played at Queens Park, Bulawayo on Tuesday.

Jersey captain Charles Perchard won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for Jersey as they picked 3 quick wickets within the first six overs. Sean Williams looked in decent touch putting pressure on Jersey's bowling line-up. Williams and Raza added 52 runs for the 4th wicket. Luke Jongwe played a brilliant cameo remaining not out on 29 off 13 deliveries to help Zimbabwe post 146 for 8.

Despite Carlyon 45 and unbeaten 35, Jersey could not cross the target. Zimbabwe bowlers kept tight lines and lengths, especially Ryan Burl.

Zimbabwe 146 for 8 in 20 overs (Sean Williams 57, Jongwe 29*, Elliot Miles 2/25) beat Jersey 123 for 5 in 20 overs ( Harrison Carlyon 45, Benjamin Ward 35*, Ryan Burl 3/13) by 23 runs.

For his 57 off 39 balls, Sean Williams was named the man of the match award. Zimbabwe confirmed their place in the semi-finals of the tournament with their 2nd successive win.

USA versus Singapore

The United States of America produced another dominating performance defeating Singapore played at Bulawayo Athletic Club, Bulawayo. Singapore captain Amjad Mahboob won the toss and decided to field first.

It was another superb batting performance by USA batters. Steven Taylor and Monak Patel provided a flying start putting on 76 runs for the opening wicket. Jaskaran Malhotra provided the impetus with a quickfire knock to help the USA post 201 for 6 in 20 overs.

Saurabh Netravalkar produced a magical spell with 5 for 12 in 4 overs. USA registered 132 runs win as they bowled out Singapore for 62.

USA 201 for 6 in 20 overs (Steven Taylor 58, Jaskaran Malhotra 58, Amjad Mahboob 3/54) beat Singapore 69 in 15.2 overs ( Anathana Krishna 21*, Saurabh Netravalkar 5/12) by 132 runs.

For his 5 for 12 in 4 overs, Saurabh Netravalkar was awarded the man of the match. USA showed their domination as they won their second successive win after defeating Jersey.

 

Group B

Netherlands produced another superb performance as they defeated Hong Kong played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan won the toss and decided to bat first.

Apart from captain Nizakat Khan's 60, none of the Hong Kong batters failed to capitalize against disciplined Netherlands bowling. Van Beek grabbed a hattrick dismissing Khan, Scott McKechnie, and Ehsan Khan in the 19th over to bowl out Hong Kong for 116.

Chasing 117 runs to win, the experienced duo of Max O Dowd and de Leede put on 64 runs for the 2nd wicket. Netherlands chased down the target with ease.

Netherlands 117 for 3 in 13.2 overs ( Max O Dowd 45, De Leede 36*, Ehsan Khan 2/18) beat Hong Kong 116 in 18.1 overs ( Nizakat Khan 60, Logan Van Beek 4/27) by 7 wickets.

For his 4 for 27 in 4 overs, Logan Van Beek was named the man of the match award.

 

Papua New Guinea versus Uganda

Papua New Guinea registered their first win defeating Uganda played at Bulyawo Athletic Club, Bulawayo. PNG captain Assad Vala won the toss and decided to bat first.

Simon Ssesazi 78 and Riazat Ali Shah 48 helped Uganda post a competitive total of 160 for 4. Simon and Shah added 108 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Chasing 161 runs to win, PNG captain Assad Vala led from the front along with Sese Bau after the loss of 2 early wickets. Both added unbeaten 132 runs for the 3rd wicket to help PNG register an 8-wicket win.

PNG 161 for 2 in 16.4 overs (Assad Vala 93*, Bau 41*, Nsubuga 2/16) beat Uganda 160 for 4 in 20 overs (Simon Ssesazi 78, Riazat Ali Shah 48, Charles Amini 2/20) by 8 wickets.

All the teams will now feature in the last league matches on 14th July.
