India versus England 1st T20I: Dominating performance by India
Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team returned to winning ways as they dominated England in the first T20I match played at Ageas Bowl, Southampton on Thursday.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat
first. It was an aggressive start by Rohit putting pressure on England's opening
bowlers. Moeen Ali provided the breakthrough for England dismissing Indian
captain Rohit with a good catch by Buttler. Deepak Hooda showed intent right
from the word go against Moeen Ali hitting him for 2 sixes keeping the
scoreboard ticking. Moeen then got rid of Ishan Kishan with a simple catch to
Matt Parkinson at short third man.
Deepak Hooda kept the pressure on the England bowlers with
positive shots not allowing them to settle for a particular line and length. At
the end of the first six overs, India raced away to 66 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Surya Kumar Yadav and Deepak
Hooda maintained the pressure on England bowlers with lovely shots making life
tough for opposition bowlers. Chris Jordan grabbed the wicket of Deepak Hooda
providing a simple catch to Mills at short fine leg. Hooda and Surya added 43
runs for the 3rd wicket.
Hardik Pandya joined in with Surya Kumar Yadav keeping the
pressure on England bowlers, especially Parkinson not allowing him to settle.
Chris Jordan got rid of Surya Kumar with a review for caught behind. The umpire
gave not out but on review, it was overturned to out as it hit the gloves. Surya
and Hardik added 37 runs for the 4th wicket.
Axar Patel was promoted ahead of Dinesh Karthik. Hardik
Pandya showed great intent keeping the pressure on England bowlers while Axar
struggled to hit boundaries. Hardik completed his maiden T20I fifty off 30
balls. Parkinson got rid of Patel with a wider delivery providing an easy catch to
Roy. Patel and Pandya added 45 runs for the 5th wicket.
The England bowlers made a strong comeback in the death
overs. Hardik Pandya fell after completing his fifty while Dinesh Karthik
smashed 2 boundaries against Mills in the final over. At the end of 20 overs,
India scored a competitive total of 198 for 8.
Chasing 199 runs to win was not an ideal start for the
hosts as Jos Buttler fell without scoring with a lovely delivery by Bhuvneshwar
Kumar. Arshdeep Singh making his T20I debut for India troubled Jason Roy and
Dawid Malan with his swinging deliveries with a maiden over. Hardik Pandya
showed his skills dismissing Malan taking the inside edge and then Liam Livingstone
who tried to hit a scoop providing an easy catch to Dinesh Karthik to leave the
hosts in trouble.
At the end of the first six overs, England looked in trouble at
32 for 3. Jason Roy’s struggle came to an end providing an easy catch to Harshal
Patel at third man. Harry Brooks put pressure on the Indian
bowlers along with Moeen Ali. The Indian catching was not up to the mark as
Dinesh Karthik dropped a chance to dismiss Brooks.
With the run-rate climbing up, Moeen looked in decent touch
hitting big shots with ease along with Brooks. Chahal took 2 wickets in an over
getting rid of Brooks caught by Surya and then Dinesh Karthik did the stumping
after the fumble. Brooks and Moeen Ali added 61 runs for the 5th wicket.
The Indian bowlers kept the pressure on England batters not
allowing them to score runs easily. Arshdeep Singh took his maiden T20I wicket
dismissing Topley and then finished off by dismissing Matt Parkinson helping
Team India register a dominating 50 runs win.
India 198 for 8 in 20 overs ( Hardik Pandya 51, Surya Kumar
Yadav 39, Chris Jordan 2/23, Moeen Ali 2/26) beat England 148 in 19.3 overs (

runs.
