India versus England 2nd ODI: Reece Topley’s brilliant helps England to a big win
The England bowlers made a strong comeback in the 2nd One-day international with a huge win played at the iconic Lords Cricket Ground, London on Thursday.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to
field first. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami troubled Jason Roy that went
past off the bat. Roy showed intent putting pressure on Indian bowlers along
with Bairstow. Hardik Pandya produced big wicket of Roy providing simple catch
to Surya Kumar Yadav. Roy and Bairstow added 41 runs laying a strong foundation
for a decent total. At the end of the first 10 overs, England made 46 for 1.
Jonny Bairstow showed intent putting pressure on the Indian
bowlers. Yuzvendra Chahal did the damage dismissing Bairstow trying to sweep
hitting stumps. On other hand, Root struggled to hit shots. Bairstow and Root
added 31 runs for the 2nd wicket. Chahal produced one more wicket
getting rid of veteran Joe Root to leave England in trouble.
Mohammed Shami produced a sensational delivery to dismiss England captain Jos Buttler. Ben Stokes did not look comfortable as he played attacking shots right from the word go. Stokes eventually to Yuzvendra Chahal to a reverse sweep leaving the hosts in trouble. Shami troubled Liam Livingstone with bouncers. After the initial struggle, Livingstone and Moeen Ali steadied the ship for England keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries. Livingstone looked to take on Hardik Pandya before providing a
simple catch to substitute Shreyas
Iyer. Livingstone and Moeen Ali added 46 runs for the 6th wicket.
Prasidh Krishna dropped a chance to dismiss David Willey at
1. Willey and Moeen Ali kept the momentum going for England with lovely shots
not allowing Indian bowlers to settle. Chahal was rebought into the attack and got rid of Moeen Ali caught by Jadeja. Moeen Ali and Willey added 62 runs
for the 7th wicket.
David Willey impressed with his shots putting pressure on
the Indian bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Willey providing an easy catch to
Shreyas Iyer. Prasidh Krishna and Bumrah cleaned up the England innings for 246
in 49 overs.
Chasing down 247 runs to win, David Willey and Reece Topley
troubled the Indian bowling with swing. Topley got rid of Indian captain Rohit
Sharma without opening his account. Virat Kohli looked confident with lovely
shots. Topley then got the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan down the leg to leave the Indian
team in trouble. At the end of the first 10 overs, India made 28 for 2.
Pant did not contribute anything as he hit a full toss straight
to substitute Phil Salt at mid-off. Willey dismissed Virat Kohli to leave India
in big trouble. Surya Kumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya looked impressive taking
singles and hitting boundaries off bad balls. Topley did the damage again
getting rid of Surya taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Surya and Hardik
Pandya added 42 runs for the 5th wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja looked in decent touch giving respect to
good deliveries and then hitting bad deliveries away for boundaries. Moeen Ali got
the big wicket of Hardik Pandya providing a simple catch to Liam Livingstone at
deep midwicket. Mohammed Shami played lovely shots against Moeen Ali while
Jadeja rotated the strike.
It was an impressive effort by Shami to take on the England
pace bowlers. Topley did the damage once more time getting rid of Shami providing a simple catch to Stokes at mid-on. Shami and Jadeja added 39 runs for the 7th
wicket. Topley completed the job by getting wickets of Chahal and Krishna in the same
over to bowl out India for 146 in 38.5 overs.
England 246 in 49 overs ( Moeen Ali 47, Willey 41, Chahal
4/47, Pandya 2/28) beat India 146 in 38.5 overs ( Hardik Pandya 29, Jadeja 29,
Topley 6/24) by 100 runs.
For his career-best figures of 6 for 24 in 9.5 overs, Reece
Topley was named the man of the match award. With this win, England leveled
the series at 1-1. The third and decider will be played on 17th July
at Old Trafford, Manchester.
