India versus England 2nd T20I: India seal the series with a dominating win
The Indian Cricket Team produced a dominating win over hosts England in the 2nd T20I match played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday.
England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to
field first. Rishabh Pant was given a chance to open the innings along with
Rohit Sharma. Jason Roy dropped Rohit Sharma at backward point while England
fielder missed run-out chance to get rid of Pant. Rohit and Pant put enough
pressure on the host's bowlers with positive intent. Making his T20I debut,
Richard Gleeson grabbed the big wicket of Rohit Sharma as Buttler took a good
catch. Rohit and Pant put on 49 runs laying a strong foundation for a big total.
Pant showed intent against Moeen Ali keeping the England bowlers under
pressure. At the end of the first six overs, India raced away to 61 for 1.
Gleeson provided two important wickets in quick succession
dismissing Virat Kohli as Malan took a good catch running behind and then Pant
took the inside edge to the wicketkeeper leaving India in trouble. Surya
Kumar Yadav along with Hardik Pandya kept the pressure on Matt Parkinson. Chris
Jordan took 2 quick wickets of Surya and Hardik in the same over to leave India
in trouble at 89 for 5.
Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship for
India against good, disciplined bowling by England bowlers. Both batsmen showed
intent against keeping the scoreboard ticking. A superb piece of fielding by Brooks
and a great run-out by Buttler as Karthik tried to steal the third run. Karthik
and Jadeja added 33 runs for the 6th wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja looked in decent touch keeping the pressure
on the England bowlers. Harshal Patel provided some vital runs smashing
Livingstone for a boundary and then Chris Jordan for a six. Chris Jordan
eventually got rid of Patel providing Gleeson a simple catch at third man.
Ravindra Jadeja provided the impetus remaining not out and
helped Team India post 170 for 8 in 20 overs. For England, Chris Jordan took 4
wickets while Gleeson 3 wickets.
Chasing 171 runs to win, Jason Roy was dismissed on the
first ball providing a simple catch to Rohit Sharma at first slips. Bhuvneshwar
Kumar then grabbed the big wicket of Jos Buttler with a review for caught behind.
The umpire gave not out but the decision was overturned to out as it hit the bottom
edge to leave England in trouble. Yuzvendra Chahal dropped Liam Livingstone's
catch.
Jasprit Bumrah produced a beauty to dismiss Livingstone
leaving England in deep trouble. At the end of the first six overs, England reached
36 for 3. Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed the big wicket of Harry Brooks with a simple catch
to Surya Kumar at long-on. Chahal struck once more dismissing Malan with a full
toss delivery.
Bumrah was bought into the attack and grabbed Sam Curran
with a simple catch to Hardik Pandya at mid-off. Moeen Ali and David Willey
provided some resistance showing intent.
Hardik Pandya got rid of Moeen Ali caught by Rohit Sharma
leaving England in tatters. Moeen and Willey added 34 runs for the 7th wicket. Chris
Jordan was run out in a mix-up. Despite Willey hitting big strokes, it was a
superb effort as India bowled out England for 121.
India 170 for 8 in 20 overs (Ravindra Jadeja 46*, Rohit
Sharma 31, Chris Jordan 4/27, Gleeson 3/15) beat England 121 in 17 overs ( Moeen
Ali 31, Willey 33*, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/15, Chahal 2/10) by 49 runs.
For his magical spell for 3 for 15 in 3 overs, Bhuvneshwar
Kumar was awarded the man of the match award. With this win, India takes a 2-0
lead in the series with 1 game to spare.
The third T20I will be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham tomorrow.
